The Facebook Version
Take everyone's Facebook profile with a grain of salt. Often times its 100x times exaggerated with super polished stories of that person's life. They highlight that new promotion, new house, new car, new boyfriend, but never really mention how hard they had to struggle or work to get those things. It should really be called flauntbook instead. And everyone is also guilty of being selective when it comes to portraying a certain image of themselves online to certain people. For example in my case, I want everyone to think I'm this cool, peace-searching hipster. Therefore, I'm selective about when, where, who I tag myself with and the photos I upload because I want everyone to see this certain image of me always at Yoga, the gym, or thinking of positive quotes. Whether it may or may not be 100% who I really am, what I have essentially done is revise and edit a cleaned up version of me online. What you see isn't what you really get in person exactly.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with doing this. I would hope that no one decides to air all their dirty laundry on social media. However, what I do want you to get out of this post is - DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE.
If you're feeling down and out about all the amazing things everyone else is doing on Facebook, I want you to go out there, start living life, and post some incredibly amazing things that you've accomplished this year.Go out there and create an authentic version of you!
At the end of the day, no one really knows the truth but you. That's all that matters anyway.
