(hope you don't mind me messaging!) what I don't understand about the seaworld study is it's about toxins and such being passed on via nursing yes? But does Kalia actually...have any toxins? I mean, she's captive born. she may have a little from Kasatka maybe but surely nothing applicable to the SRKWs :/

Everyone is welcome to message always.As far as I understand the milk study is about toxins shared through milk, yhea. “[…]Dr. Noren will assess the dynamics of persistent organic pollutant (POP) transfer from female killer whales to their calves during lactation.” xI don’t know about SW’s whales specifically but there was a study done on Marineland Antibes’ whales. The study looked at the contaminants found in the food, then the resulting contaminants found in the whales. Freya was the only wild-caught involved. They all had quite a variety of pollutants in their systems.(I have read the whole study, the pdf was shared with me a while back.)Given that, and SW’s own nod to it (”Even though the pollutant levels in our park’s killer whales are lower[…]”) it’s likely the whales have sufficient toxins to study. But different concentrations, different toxins, different physiology, different lifestyle… I am at a loss how that is supposed to meaningfully bolster data in a way that helps with SRKW conservation. Hell yhea it’s DATA, but…?(also: a while back, were procaps not in a huff about how irrelevant studying Tokitae’s uptake of pollutants would be because she’s been captive, because she’s had a different diet, because she’s just one whale? I wonder if they think the same of this ;P)

ok but why the flip are we still getting concept art at this stage? Like I would expect to see renders, proper renders, right now and detail shots expanding on key features and things of note, not these broad concept pieces.

I don’t pretend to be an expert in such things, but can I ask what sort of thing do you mean by “proper renders”? From my experience with theme parks over the years you very rarely get more than what we have already seen until a new ride/experience/whatever is nearing opening (or has at least broken ground). It’s unusual to get a overhead view like the new one we've seen, and will usually just be given artist concepts like the ones previously released [1] [2] [3].

For instance, Antarctica at SeaWorld Orlando initially just released artists depictions [shown in this article], and we didn’t really get anything more detailed until they started posting photos of the construction (to my knowledge anyway). And Disney’s new Avatar expansion wasn't announced with anything more than concept art, until blueprints leaked. Although of course these weren't announced before they had permission...
