David & Goliath
The story of David and Goliath has always fascinated me. The underdog, not on anyone's radar, takes on the all-powerful and projected winner and overcoming all obstacles...wins. When our family had the opportunity to travel to the Holy Land in 2019, it was the visit to the Valley of Elah, located in the Judean Foothills of Israel, where my soul soared recounting David's faith, the tremendous obstacles, and the surprising victory that resulted. The story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17) is one of bravery, courage, and faith. David, a small shepherd boy, volunteered to fight Goliath, the Philistine champion. David knocked Goliath to the ground with merely a sling and stones and then killed the giant with his own sword. The Philistines fled, and Israel won the battle. It was through immense faith that David confronted Goliath and emerged victorious. From Goliath's attitude, we learn that hubris leads to a downfall, and that through God, no one should underestimate an opponent, no matter their stature. Current day "Davids" are a standout. I've been fortunate enough to have witnessed faithful & victorious battles of uncommon bravery against the giants of wrong. As 2025 begins, this reminder of faith and persistence once again floods my soul with the reminder that no matter what earthly forces invade, to remember that the battle belongs to the Lord, always will. God empowered David, and He will empower you with any Goliath that you may face!
