4 and 7 for Curtis and little red
The last few peaceful moments of the morning were drawn out, focused on the sunlight hitting the mountains surrounding your home at the right angle to make everything look as if it’d been draped in gold dust.
Your legs were still tangled in each other and the bed, drawn together and unwilling to leave each others warmth. For you it was more inviting to lay against Curtis’ chest while his hand rubbed up and down your back, listening to his heart beating. It was natural and humanly, his heart beating was no more ordinary than anyone else’s beating heart however to you it represented strength and courage.
You hadn’t found the ability to move until your baby’s chatter had been heard from down the hall, the dulcet sounds stirring you from your peaceful state. You had started to rise, started to untangle yourself from Curtis to tend to your baby, only for Curtis to get up instead.
“Sleep, I’ll get her.” His fingers gently brushed down the side of your cheek, his lips fluttering against your forehead and then he departed the bed.
You fell back into a peaceful sleep, unknowing how long you’d been resting. Though it was the sound of your daughters graceful and pretty coos that woke you up from sleep again, it was Curtis’ gentle tap on your backside that had you rolling onto your side.
“Good morning beautiful.” Curtis’ fingers slipped under the blanket, feeling every inch of you that he could. “We had breakfast and a bath.”
Your daughter was dressed in a teddy bear wraparound blanket, cozied and warmed by the material. She was sitting to your left, cooing and smiling at you while her hands toyed with the blanket covering her.
“Daddy gave you a bath?” You reached for her, your hands resting upon hers. “You look so cute!”
“We could stay in bed,” Curtis came to lay behind you, one arm over your waist and his leg entwining with yours, “just the three of us.”
“I’d like that,” you leaned against him, watching your daughter scoot forward on her bum, “just the three of us.”
