so I made a formal complaint through disability services about my office space and I am getting relocated to a different part of the building that shouldn't be 90*

It's definitely a good development, but I'm a little sad that the process of advocating for myself has involved feeling alienated by my colleagues and now being physically moved to a space on the opposite side of the building from them

I mean, I haven't really been part of the social mesh in my division since 2020, when they all spent several months not working from home and I did everything I could to become a covid expert

But still

I am so fucking tired of

a) having to ask repeatedly for the most basic accommodations at work (like "I need my office to be cooler than 90*F" and "I need guaranteed use of a patient care space that isn't the ONE ROOM where my continuous glucose monitor doesn't work because of interference")

and b) having colleagues acting like I'm being a diva for requesting work environments that don't literally endanger my health

half the time, the response is somewhere along the lines of "well you're welcome to not do your job" because who in the US Healthcare system gives a shit about a doctor with disabilities, much less patients with them

so, while I was in the middle of packing my fucking office for this fucking move, Facilities kicked me out to do work because there's a hospital audit next week so it needs to look artificially pretty

came back this morning to finish packing and discovered that Facilities broke $200 worth of stuff I had bought with my own money and just left broken glass everywhere without taking any responsibility

and now my colleagues are acting like I'm unreasonable for being upset. I literally overheard one of them on the phone saying "she FREAKED OUT" and then laughing

someone please remind me that I can't just walk out and never come back because I need my health insurance to afford fucking insulin

nbd an interview I did for work a month ago is quoted in the front page headline story of a major national news publication today

I can't talk about details but I'm at a work event this week that's just got me on a constant refrain of "is this real life????"

this is a very Monday

I'm doing 3 different invited lectures on covid in the next two months and my division has started affectionately calling me 'COVID Queen' so like. that's cool and also kind of disturbing.

apparently I have reached the point in my career where I feel totally comfortable saying "no I will not drop everything to do an extra task for free"
