Help DFRNT fund his new album
Following the example of American dubstep/garage imprint LoDubs, which managed to raise enough money for the vinyl release of Swarms' Old Rave's End LP and the forthcoming Clubroot album through a Kickstarter campaign, Scottish producer/DJ/label head DFRNT recently took to crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to ask his fans for their assistance in financing his second full-length, Fading, which he intends to release through his Echodub label.
To be more precise, the donations are supposed to fund the mastering of the 11 album tracks, which have been in the making for about a year or two, and to help press and promote the CD release. Depending on whether or not the funding target of $5,000 is reached by the end of the campaign on May 3, the CD product will be preceded by a 2 or 3 track 12" vinyl release comprising 1 or 2 tracks from the album, plus an additional track or remix.
Judging by the figures raised until now, things are looking fairly good for that to happen. About a month into the campaign, the $2,500 mark has already been well surpassed, allowing DFRNT to have the mastering done and give the (potential) backers a taste of what they can expect for their money. Below, you can listen to a short preview mix of the mastered tracks, which, as the man himself puts it, "range from ambient, dub-techno style pieces, through deeper bass music, to tunes stylistically similar to house or techno, with plenty room for genre-hopping in between".
But not only do supporters get an album's worth of outstanding electronic music in return for their investment, along with immensely stylish artwork to match (see it in its full glory here), they also have the chance to receive a variety of pretty appealing perks. Depending on the donation level, DFRNT offers anything from a pre-release digital copy of the album, through a signed physical copy, an Echodub t-shirt, an exclusive track and mixtape, right up to a day hanging out with him.
