Book haul! I'm so excited about these. I got lucky and found an affordable copy of the 2nd edition of Living Folklore, which has a section about folklore on the internet, and I got the next 2 Squire's Tale books, which are both about characters I love (Sir Gareth, who I just read about in Le Morte d'Arthur, and my beloved Percival, who I am currently reading about!) And my very own copy of the Oxford Book of Ballads, so I can reference them whenever I want and! Possibly teach myself to play the ones that come with music :3
I feel like i rarely ever see romance protagonists expressing doubts specifically like these? Its very relatable. Girl idk but if you figure it out let me know

The thing that compels me about Child ballad 39 is that it treats love like a bit of a gamble. Janet is gambling on Tam Lin in his many forms not hurting her, and Tam Lin is gambling on Janet having the strength of will to save him. Neither of them know for sure what will happen. They don't know each other that well. Maybe they're both in it for selfish reasons, and maybe they're not. Like I said. Compelling.
I definitely feel an amount of kinship with the folklorists who compiled ballads and stories for posterity. I too spend hours, days, months, and even years making playlists
Finished reading The Squire's Tale by Gerald Morris! My first book of the year! And it was really good!
I have been enjoying Le Morte d'Arthur but I think me and Mr. Morris are on the same wavelength when it comes to interpretations of certain characters. I'd have really loved this book as a kid :3
Speaking of, my next book will be Parzival: The Quest of the Grail Knight by Katherine Paterson. I read it as a kid and I remember really loving it, so I'm going to do a reread 17 years later to see if it holds up!
Okay see, 2 chapters in to Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands and there are already assassination threats. And they're magical ones too. This is much more my speed
