Would you class Aaron as a homophobe??
I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll end up saying it again. I think some of Aaron’s language is homophobic and shitty, like the use of the term “flamer” while trying to rile Neil up. But I don’t think Aaron has a homophobic mindset like ‘oh gross, Nicky and Andrew are gay’ and I don’t think he is really anti-gay so much as he uses terms as insults because that’s what negative connotations have made them. Which is still shitty, but is different than a full-blown homophobic mindset that I have seen zero evidence of.
Nora describes Aaron’s comments as knee-jerk homophobia and behaviour he learned from his high school teammates, not a belief system. (I don’t know the link to the actual post, but there’s a screenshot of it in that one.)
So, yes, he says some shit that is bad. But, no, I don’t think Aaron believes homosexuality is disgusting and unnatural. And I definitely think Aaron is capable of growing and learning and realizing the weight of what his words mean (especially when he’s got Andrew around and Andrew flat-out told Seth he doesn’t like the term “fag” and then Aaron got all “Don’t talk to us at all” at Seth). So, I feel like he would get called on it and stop saying the shit if he did it in front of Andrew or Nicky and they said something.
Plus, Aaron is closest to Nicky of all the Foxes. Aaron chooses to spend a lot of time with Nicky for someone who is supposedly homophobic and supposedly thinks Nicky is disgusting for being gay according to parts of the fandom. And, Aaron spent his holidays with Nicky and Erik instead of Katelyn when Andrew wasn’t there and he was free (for a limited time) to be around Katelyn as much as he wanted. But instead, he left campus and spent his holiday with Nicky and Erik. And everyone that claims Aaron finds Nicky disgusting seems to completely ignore this fact???
Plus, Nicky nearly killed himself quite literally from trying to stay with his homophobic parents and then broke free of them to be with Erik. And then he ended up on a different continent than the man he wanted to marry for years when he took the twins in so they wouldn’t have to live with his parents and he kept on staying with them and looking after them and going everywhere with them for years while they were adults. There’s no way he would stay away from Erik for that long and put up with Aaron for that long (and especially no way he would still be so happy while doing all that) if he thought Aaron was a hopeless and irreparable homophobe that found him repulsive.
