One Year
One year ago yesterday, I text @faelynelle while she was in class and told her I wanted to get into an actual, PC-based MMO. Of course, it would have to be free and able to run on our craptastic laptops. She responded saying that she would love to try it out, as well, so I began my search.
Guild Wars 2 was the first I had come across that fit the “free” aspect I was searching for (the ability to run on what we had was is still up for debate). Awesome, right? Although it wasn’t long after we discovered it that we ended up purchasing both DLCs.
I worked on downloading it, and Fae said she would do the same once she got home, and in the meantime, she researched the game to see what it was about.
One year ago today, we sat down on my couch and created our first characters - Velancea and Faelynelle.
Immediately, we were enthralled in what the game had to offer. It was beautiful (even with our horrid graphic settings we were forced to use), engaging, and above all, we couldn’t get enough of the music. We would sit in the same room and hardly speak to each other, as we both had our headphones in so that we could hear it all.
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year. Granted, college kept us busy, as college does, and we couldn’t quite play all the time later on. Even so, there were so many memorable moments that took place, and while we captured some through screenshots, I just cannot put into words the hilarity of some of the situations we got ourselves into (such as Fae falling off the bridge and dying before we even got out of the Dream itself).
Over the past year, I have gotten to know others and even joined a guild that I can find myself being truly active in; however, I know I couldn’t have made it this far and have had this much fun if it weren’t for Fae being there from the very beginning, and I am so very grateful for that.
Another I have gotten to know in this time is Vel herself. Her storyline has been built and is ever growing. While I have yet to share parts of her story here with the community, I hope to do so soon because, despite being a small blog myself, seeing everyone speak of their characters and commanders really makes me want to spread Vel’s, as well! you are all a great inspiration and I love reading/seeing all of your own works!
So this is a lot of rambling, and really, I could go on and on about my experience with GW2 and how much I adore the game and how it has helped me through some truly tough times, but I’ll end it here for now, with some progression pictures of Vel and Fae through the year (poor graphics and all!).
Crazy to see how much our plant children have grown and changed in such a seemingly short amount of time!
Thank you so much for the experience this past year, ArenaNet, and here’s to many more!
from then, to now
