Summery: Miwa is born and Michio finally gets to meet his daughter... along with the rest of the girls in his family.
Note: and whats probably the final one im putting out! daddy Michio... day 6 was hard to come up with.
***
Michio’s eyes sparkled as he stared down at the babbling baby. He's a father now. He has a daughter.
Michio reached out for the baby girl with excited grabby hands. He wanted to hold her. Yumiko let out an amused huff as she handed him their daughter and Michio stared at the baby in awe.
Chizuru watched the exchange with a fond smile. She wasn't sure if she had ever seen Michio smile so brightly and happily.
“Miwa…” He said her name softly and smiled. “Hey… I'm your dad. Nice to meet you.” The baby stared at him blankly.
Canon slowly walked up to him and peaked around his shoulder at the small baby. “So this is a baby…” Canon mumbled with a serious tone to her voice.
Maya came around to the other side of Michio’s shoulder and looked at Canon with surprise. “You've never seen a baby!?” Maya said sounding scandalized.
Michio looked back and forth between the two girls and his daughter in his arms. What was he supposed to say in this situation?
Canon pouted at Maya. “Well have you?”
Maya opened her mouth. “Well that's… uh…”
Michio sighed. Was this supposed to be practice for when Miwa got older. “Girls no fighting,” Michio scolded. Yumiko giggled at him as she watched, which made him look at her curiously. “What?”
“Oh… nothing, just thinking how good of a dad you'll make,” Yumiko teased.
Chizuru nodded her head as she stared at him an amused look. “Yes… I have to admit I was wrong about you Michio. If you can handle those two, you will be a great dad,” Chizuru said.
Maya looked at her mother with an offended expression, however Canon just seemed lost.
Michio blushed. “Huh uh… well I do have years of experience with Canon right!” he said with a laugh. Canon looked at him unamused and Michio could feel himself sweating.
“Right…” Canon said with narrowed eyes. Maya raised an eyebrow. Michio had the creeping fear that Maya didn't believe he was a very good guardian.
“But even with those years of experience with Canon-chan I'm sure you've never raised a baby. Changed diapers,” Chizuru said intimidatingly. Michio side glanced at her nervously before awkwardly coughing.
“Well yeah… but that just makes this all the more fun! Nothing more enjoyable than a new enemy!”
“Don't call our daughter an enemy,” Yumiko called from her bed in the clinic. She stared at Michio with a strong glare.
“I meant the diapers! The diapers are the enemies… haha...ha.” Michio laughed nervously and hoped Yumiko bought it. She narrowed her eyes further before eventually sighing.
“A new beginning…” Canon mumbled, which earned her the curious looks of the room. “M-Mom said living with her and Shoko and living on the island was a new beginning for me… because I was starting a new life.” She then averted her eyes and focused on Miwa. “Since you've started a new family I thought… it's a new beginning for you.”
Michio looked at Canon surprised, then reached out and patted her head with his free hand. “Yeah I guess it is…” He smiled at Canon then at Maya. “Hey but it's a new beginning for you two as well! You girls are aunts now.’
Maya's eyes sparkled. “That's right, I'm an auntie now!” It then looked like she realized something as she averted her eyes. “Does that mean I have to babysit…”
“You don't want to look after your niece?” Michio questioned sounding almost offended.
“No that isn't it! I just uh… don't know how to handle diapers…”
Yumiko laughed. “Don't worry Maya, big sister will teach you,” she said. She sounded proud of herself, but for some reason Maya felt a little afraid of her sister.
Canon looked like she was debating something before finally looking up at Michio and asked, “I'm an aunt? I'm not related to Miwa…”
Michio shook his head. “Sure you are kiddo. I was your guardian for quite some time you know. You're like… a little sister to me.” Michio assumed his answer satisfied her because she smiled. He then decided to tease her. “And well if that isn't good enough then you can always marry into the family!”
The two girls stared at him confused how that could even be possible, before their eyes met and they both blushed heavily. “Wha...What!?” Canon shouted looking like she was about ready to pull her gun on him.
“D-dont joke about something like that! Pervert!” Maya shouted, which only caused Michio to laugh even more. It really was fun to tease these two.
Michio hugged Miwa to his chest. “Protect me Miwa!” He said, acting like he was afraid of the girls. He really would have been had he not been holding the baby.
Yumiko looked at him with disappointment. “I can't believe you're using our daughter as a shield.”
Michio laughed as the two teen girls continued to yell at him in embarrassment, and Miwa looked at his expression then started laughing as well.
Michio felt a moment of pride upon realization that he was the first one to make his baby girl laugh.
He would make sure he was the greatest father Miwa could ever have.
Fafner Week 2016 Day 4 (9/21)
Prompt B) Celebration
It’s Kazuki’s birthday, not that he’s in much of a condition to celebrate considering his medical condition.
Post Dead Aggressor, a year before H&E, obviously.
Author is Lady Harken
——————-
A year had passed, Kazuki had learned after he had finally regained consciousness. A year spent in coma, time lost to him. A whole year of Soushi gone, as well, though as Kazuki was now slowly recovering, he had found Soushi wasn't actually completely gone.
As the matter of fact, Soushi was very much here with him, through Crossing. His body was lost, and it was taking time to recover it, but it was possible, thanks to the Festum. It would take time, Soushi had explained, but that didn't matter. If there was a chance of Soushi returning, Kazuki would wait as long as it took.
Back in the day, Kazuki's body had always been quick to recover from injuries; now, perhaps that year that taken its toll. He still had slight issues performing simple everyday tasks and needed to rest a lot. Doctor Toumi had said he would get better in time, but right now, he had strict orders to take it easy.
There were worse issues than having to wait till he regained his strength - his eyesight was fading. It was not completely gone yet, but the problem was it wasn't happening due to the coma. It was a result of assimilation side effects, and while the rest of his body would eventually recover for him to continue a normal life, his eyes were never going to return to normal.
He currently preferred keeping his eyes covered. Perhaps after he'd recovered a little, he could try getting used to making out what he could still see, but for now, his eyes hurt occasionally. It wasn't like having his eyes covered kept him from seeing Soushi, who was sitting right in front of him, in his room where he sat on his futon, too exhausted to get up just yet. It was the morning, not that he had any other way of telling than the fact that he wasn't sleepy anymore.
"Happy birthday, Kazuki," Soushi said, catching him a bit by surprise.
Kazuki found himself smiling. "That's, ah," he chuckled a bit and lowered his face. "I almost forgot it was today. Thank you."
"What?" The image of Soushi smiled as well. "I wanted to be the first one to say it, and I definitely have the advantage of being the first one here today." He raised his hand to touch Kazuki's face, and while Soushi's fingers weren't there, Kazuki could swear he felt the touch. Crossing affected his brain, after all, and if his brain said Soushi's touch was real, it didn't matter if his skin didn't feel it in reality. "I wish I could get you a present, but my options are slightly limited."
With Crossing, Kazuki didn't actually have to speak aloud, but it was just easier that way. "The fact that you're here is enough," he said, idly wondering if it would've looked weird to anyone if they had found him talking to himself. Nobody knew of the Crossing, and he felt that they wouldn't have believed him even if he did tell. It led him to think that maybe he actually should've paid a little attention to when he talked aloud, after all. "In this situation, it's more than I could ask for."
"I could recite you poetry," Soushi offered, making Kazuki want to laugh. "Though, wait a minute," Soushi added, looking thoughtful. "I just remembered something. I think I do have a present for you. When you get the chance, go stop by my room. In the bottom drawer of my desk, there's a small box. I..." He smiled again, appearing a little awkward. "I was trying to figure what to get to you last year. This is as far as I got, and for obvious reasons, I never got around to giving you a gift last year."
Crossing had the bad habit of giving away what exactly Soushi was thinking. "A letter opener and a fancy pen?" Kazuki grinned. "That's sounds very much like you, though. Thanks? I'll go check your room whenever they let me wander anywhere alone."
"I never was good with this kind of things, was I?" Soushi pondered. "It was between the pen set and a book, I recall, and I didn't have the chance to pick out that book. Now, neither make very good gifts, do they?"
"I can still use a pen, even if I can't see what I'm writing," Kazuki pointed out.
Soushi nodded. "I'll do better next year," he swore. "I apologize for not being able to participate in your birthday party, either. Assuming there is one this year."
"The others insisted on having a party of some kind, which probably means they'll be stopping by later today and dragging me out," Kazuki replied. "I'm not exactly in a condition for anything fancy, though. Keeps me from sitting at home all day, at least."
He hadn't meant to sound depressing, but from the way Soushi looked at him and from the way Soushi felt, he knew it ended up being just that. "Kazuki." Soushi moved closer, to his side, and put his arms around Kazuki's shoulders. "You're still recovering. I don't remember you being one to give up because of something like this."
The touch that wasn't there gave Kazuki more hope than anything Doctor Toumi had ever said about his condition. "I know," he said with a hint of a smile, leaning in to Soushi's arms just a little. "I'll be fine. Last thing I need is you getting worried," he added with a soft chuckle. "What are you concerning yourself about my body being in this condition? Worry about your own, first."
There was a bit of feeling of relief in the Crossing, but also regret. "I'll come back to you," Soushi quietly said. "So recover from this, and wait for me."
"I will. I'll wait, as long as it takes," Kazuki replied.
He stayed still, feeling the touch that lingered for another moment, until he was forced to snap out of it as his father called for him, saying something about an Alvis medical check. Fumihiko then entered, adding a line about it being Kazuki's birthday.
It made Kazuki smile. Soushi had still said it first.
End.
——————-
Author’s notes: Happy birthday Kazuki, have... yeah. Only slight suffering? :) Anyway the whole year in coma after the show/before H&E is from the official site, so going by that here. About a year after DA would be around September, hmm?
Thankfully Soushi’s "I'll do better next year," actually applies and he totally did! Considering the events of H&E happen around late August/early September, before Kazuki’s next birthday.
So I had no ideas and @minashiro-kazuki-kun said “how Fumihiko and Akane met” on Twitter. I said I suck at backstory fics but then I wrote this short thingy anyway

The 502nd Squadron's newly assigned pilots looked like quite the merry bunch, Akane thought as she studied the bunch of newcomers. Straight out of basic training the whole lot of them, though several of them already had front line experience, she knew.
Don't get attached to them, some people said. Mortality rate was high these days, thanks to radiation sickness issues, and not many people survived the Festum attacks. Akane didn't buy that kind of logic, though - if you didn't care for your team, what chances were there that there was going to be true teamwork to keep everyone alive? There was a chance many of these young men and women would die, certainly, but Akane wasn't going to have that happen without someone caring for them.
Young. She was twenty herself, the "ace pilot" of the squadron. Most of this new bunch were nothing but teenagers, sixteen or seventeen, maybe eighteen at most. That's how it was these days, not that Akane had to like it just because they had no other options.
"All right, team. You're officially part of the JSDF 502nd Squadron. I'm your commanding officer, Makabe Akane." She told them. She could hear someone mumbling 'that's the ace' under their breaths. Good for the young ones to have someone to look up to, she admitted, though it would've been better if the circumstances hadn't been what they were. "I believe you've been instructed on the basics. Welcome to the team. You can come to me if there's any questions, other than that, that's all for today. Dismissed."
"Yes ma'am!" Came the unified reply, then most of them left. Akane sighed. Maybe she could give them a little warmer speech later, but right now, everyone was too much on the edge.
Well except this one, she noted to herself. Asagi Fumihiko, she remembered his name from the file. A bit serious one, a man of few words, was all she knew of him for now. "Something the matter?" She asked. "If you need to ask something, go ahead."
The young man caught himself. "Nothing, ma'am," he quickly said. He then saluted and left, looking about as serious as he had been for the whole meeting.
Akane smiled as she watched him leave. This one seemed like an interesting one, at least.
End.

Author’s notes: Based on stuff I know from the official Timeline. Yes Akane’s four years older than Fumihiko.
Fafner Week 2016 Day 2 (9/19)
Prompt B) Assimilation
This totally needed to be a 4koma which ends in Nicht getting scolded, then Kazuki cleaning the crystals from the floor while Soushi puts up a sign that says “do not feed the miniFafners” but I ran out of time.
Soukyuu no Fafner, Seri, Rina & Tsubaki, "Naming Scheme"
Fafner Week 2016 Day 6 (9/23)
Prompt A) Mythology
The three have a discussion on the names used by the Arcadian Project.
Author is Lady Harken
——————-
There had been a Festum attack earlier in the day, but with the pilots as effective as they were, everyone was off duty already. Rina had gotten out of CDC a little earlier, and had already had time to stop by home. She waved her hand at the sight of Tsubaki and Seri; the three had agreed to meet up later, and Festum or not, their little 'let's get some soda and go sit on the beach" deal seemed to be still on.
"I've got the soda. You two ready?" Rina asked, holding up the three bottles she had grabbed from the store. She was a little bit of worried about Tsubaki, seeing the Norns she controlled had been out to support the Fafner pilots again, but she seemed to be okay.
"You bet," Tsubaki replied. "I'm quite fine," she added, as if she had been reading Rina's thoughts. Maybe she was, somewhat. "Let's go watch the sunset!"
Seri nodded. "I brought some candy too. This'll be great!"
They made it to their planned beach spot after a while and sat down to enjoy the snacks. "That was quite the battle earlier," Rina commented. "Is it hard to control the Norns?" She wondered, looking at Tsubaki. "It's amazing you can use the Brünnhilde System wherever you are, but isn't it difficult?"
Tsubaki smiled. "It's not hard. Though I suppose it's hard to explain." She took a sip of her soda and watched as the sea slowly turned red, with the sun vanishing behind the horizon. "I didn't have to do anything, really."
"All thanks to our amazing Fafner pilots. Say, though," Seri wondered. "Why did Arcadian Project have to give everything foreign names? The original Fafner was a dragon, right?"
"Maybe someone working in the project really liked the opera Der Ring des Nibelungen, Tsubaki replied with a giggle. "Though all the names and such used in that are from Norse Mythology, and that's why we have things like Hábrók," she added, referring to the reconnaissance plane. "Suppose they decided the German spellings sounded better or were easier to pronounce."
Rina leaned back, watching the sky as well. "Either way, I kinda wish they would've gone with something easier. It's a pain when you work in the CDC, having to remember all the foreign names. They named the Fafners in German too, with the numbers."
"Hmm. But what if the one who came up with all the names originally was actually German?" Seri asked.
"All members of the Arcadian Project weren't Japanese," Tsubaki reminded them. "As the matter of fact that's a reason why the Albericht Organization originally got named that, and why everything that came later was named as they were." She turned to her companions and gave them a meaningful smile. "Would you like to hear the whole story?"
Seri and Rina looked at each other then at Tsubaki. "Maybe," Rina said. "But is this a fun story, or a boring long one how some scientists came up with stuff years ago?"
"Hmm, I don't know," Tsubaki replied, still appearing a little mysterious. "Maybe you should read up on it on your own. It is all in the Archives, after all. Though shouldn't you consider a good thing that it's just a naming scheme, which doesn't in the end have anything to do with how things are going for us?"
That didn't sound too good. "Why?" Rina questioned.
The mysterious smile stayed on Tsubaki's face. "Because the dragon Fáfnir from the original legend?" She explained. "He got killed, and the legendary hero who defeated him took the treasure he had been guarding."
There was a moment of silence. "Okay, yeah! Just a naming scheme," Seri agreed. "The Festum sure aren't heroes, anyway, and they won't be taking any treasure from here." She leaned closer and caught Tsubaki for a hug. "And our mighty dragons are definitely going to protect everyone here, hmm? So let's talk about something else. Having soda and eating candy like this sure is nice. I know, how about we go for a picnic! We pack some lunch and we could go look for some insects."
Rina nodded. "Sounds like a plan. Let's do that this weekend. You got any plans, Tsubaki?"
"I have some now," Tsubaki replied, giving them the sweetest smile she could manage.
End.

Author’s notes: Tsubaki a cute and needs to be in more fics
Summery: Canon wonders about family and why the Hazama's are so kind to her despite not knowing her, and so decides to ask Michio about it.
Note: another late entry! this time starring my fav girl being confused
***
Family.
It was something Canon had given up on before she was accepted to the island. It was something she hadn't thought she was capable of having any longer.
However things changed. When she was told she would be staying with the Hazama’s. When the lady said that from here on out she would be her mother. That the sickly girl in bed is her older sister. Things changed.
Even though at the start Canon wasn't sure what to say to the two, she felt like she could trust them for some reason, but the girls confused her. Why be kind to her when they've never met her?
When Canon expressed this to Michio he laughed. Canon had pouted at his reaction. She was being serious. She couldn't understand what reason they could have for being kind to her.
“You remember what you said when I picked you up in Dublin?” Michio had said after his laughter calmed. Canon didn't know the meaning behind the question at the time but she answered regardless.
“I asked you why did you save me,” she answered
Michio had nodded his head. He seemed almost wise at the time. Canon wondered why she even expected something profound. “And what did I say afterwards?”
“That you wonder why.”
“Exac- wait what no… ugh.” Michio scratched his head and quietly mumbled, “Guess I had too much faith in myself.” Michio looked at Canon again. “Well listen, one of the reasons I saved you is because it was the right thing to do.”
“So they're being nice to me because it's what’s right to do?” Canon asked. She couldn't fully understand that though. How was being kind to her the right thing when she tried to kill them.
“Well partially… it's more complex than that, just, you can trust them.” Michio reached out and patted Canon on her head. “Just relax and try to talk to them.”
“But I don't know what to say.”
Michio smiled. “Say whatever comes to your mind.”
Canon wasn't sure about trusting someone she had just met, but Michio’s words stuck with her on the way home. Could she really trust them?
Canon walked inside and was greeted by her “sister” who smiled at her sweetly. Canon froze to see her standing. All the other times the girl was in bed.
“Welcome home,” Shoko said.
Michio’s words replayed in Canon's head and she fidgeted. She can trust her. “I'm home,” Canon said hesitantly as she stepped further in. Maybe she should try trusting her.
“How was your day?” Shoko asked curiously as she went to sit down.
Canon blinked. She was curious about what she did? “You want a report of my day?” She was asked for mission reports but never of what she did in her free time.
Shoko giggled and shook her head. “I just want to know if you enjoyed yourself today.”
Canon hesitated but walked over to the chair and sat beside her. Relax Michio had said. Canon took a deep breath then smiled faintly. She would try.
She would attempt to learn more about family, to accept this new environment.
