Old pictures of the day: early 3D technology: two #stereographic images of #stmaryredcliffe, taken from different parts of the south churchyard. Stereographs consist of two nearly identical photographs or photomechanical prints, paired to produce the illusion of a single three-dimensional image, usually when viewed through a stereoscope. The most noticeable thing here, to the modern eye, is the lack of a spire. The original spire is said to have been struck by lightning in the mid-fifteenth century, destroying part of the church as it fell. The spire was not replaced until 1872, when it was rebuilt as the culmination of the major C19th restoration of the church. #fairestandgoodliest (at St Mary Redcliffe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkI2NzfsGU_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
