A little note of reminder from someone with pink undertoned skin after a day in the sunshine! When you say “your face is really pink”, “someone’s been in the sun”, “wow, you should have worn sunscreen”, “I bet that hurts”, “did you know your face is really red?, “hi beetroot/tomato/other reddish foodstuffs” etc… What do you hope to achieve by saying these things? Do you want to help us? - because it’s not helpful! It’s not like saying to someone, oh your makeup has smudged down your face and we can go and clean it up, there’s nothing we can do about it, it’s our DNA. The only thing we can do is avoid sunlight altogether… is that reasonable? Is it to inform us that our skin is a different colour to what it was earlier that day? Because, we sure as hell know, we’ve lived with this skin all our lives and chances are we hate it! Let me tell you what is achieved by making these comments. Precisely 2 things: 1) We feel self conscious and ugly. 2) We just want to hide away. Our skin tone and how it responds to sunlight is not your concern. And in answer to the questions we fair skin, pink/red undertoned skin types get CONSTANTLY when the sun has been out: Yes, I do know my skin is pink/red. No, it doesn’t hurt (or for some people, yes it does hurt). Yes, I put sunscreen on my face every damned day come rain or shine, this is just how my skin reacts to the sun and I hate it!
