I wish I could play there some day...

We were in New York for the first time in over two years, and this weekend we’re going back for another few days.
July in New York was a little strange, as it had been just over five weeks since many places were opening up and many places were still closed. Finding lunch spots was not as easy as it used to be, which made sense--if offices are closed, why bother opening for lunch? I managed to find a few good spots, however, and believe it or not--getting a sandwich at Katz’s was somehow easier than it was before the pandemic. (Just get there early to avoid standing in a line that goes down Second Avenue.)
Some places are still shuttered--Sardi’s, for example--but others like the Grand Central Oyster Bar are back to business, and I’m so, so excited to sit down on one of their stools and have a martini and some oysters, Roger Sterling-style.
Any trip to New York requires a stop at Fairway to stock up on oil and vinegars (and something I don’t take for granted anymore given what happened with their bankruptcy/sale), and after a quick stop at Despana for some pantry goodies and coffee, we walked over to Onieal’s for some snacks, beer, and soaking up the Sex and the City vibes.
