Answer: Elf and Elfen were the submitted names. Given the fantastical background, I don’t think the spelling is a big deal. But just to conform with the dictionary, we’ll change it to Elfin.

FWIW, as I understand it, elfin is actually the proper adjective. Tolkien chose to use elven for his own work and worldbuilding though, and this has become more common since then. Language evolves!
