Divorce was an ugly seven letter word, but so was the sentence: Your ex-wife is moving on with someone else. No one wants to be the one to move on last when it comes to the end of a relationship, especially when you’re still harboring bitter feelings, and instead of letting the world feel pity for you, the next best solution is to get even instead.
The plan was simple for Peyton Zelenko: ruin her ex-wife’s current relationship, spread ill-words about her around town, make herself look like the pitiful divorcee that everyone assumed she would be, and of course, get in with the ex’s best friend, Shannon Douglas, to truly isolate Harper Avesta from everyone.
Shannon hadn’t wanted to come between the separating couple, but as both of their friends, it was exactly where she had ended up being. While her loyalties did lie with both people, she couldn’t but feel like her place as one of Harper’s friends was being replaced with Harper’s new relationship, and it was because of that that Peyton had been able to use that to her advantage.
It was easy enough to be a bigger part of Shannon’s life, but when it came to slowly poisoning her away from Peyton, she had to bide her time to make sure everything went as plan. The only hitch in her plan? Not accounting for the time she spent with Shannon would end up actually meaning something to her.
What started as a sure fire plan to get back at Harper soon became muddled with other plans, other interests, and other feelings. It soon came down to the question: What did Peyton really want at the end of her plan now?
