The guild is still powerful in Cyrodiil, but poor decisions in the recent past have weakened it. Perhaps killed it. We shall see.

(Diff. Anon) So Brii and her father were close? I know Soliman was academically ambitious but would he be able to really hang out with his children (brii mostly) due to his work within the Thalmor? In what ways did he connect to each child?
I wouldn’t say they were too close. I mean, Briisebrom is undoubtedly her father’s favourite, but at the same time they’re not close in the sense that they do activities together, have meaningful conversations with each other, etc. This is in part because Soliman is academically-minded (as you said), but also because Briisebrom is a total space cadet when it comes to focusing on the present and not on her daydreams.
Soliman’s work as a member of the Thalmor is not just a time-consuming career, it’s his passion. So although he loves his children very dearly, they were never quite his top priority. He often lost track of them and didn’t bother setting very many boundaries (basics like mealtimes, bedtimes, etc).
Falcar and his father bonded through food. When Falcar was young, it was when they ate dinner as a family and his father’s attention was taken off his research. When Falcar was older and his mother was gone, Falcar took it upon himself to make sure his father kept himself well-fed.
Orintur tried to bond with his father through academia. He sought to be the smartest of all his classmates: out-perform them, out-wit them, out-class them. Soliman was for the most part oblivious to his son’s efforts, largely because he didn’t place very much importance on exam marks. So instead of appearing like a bright young academic, Orintur’s Grand Plan backfired and he came off as a snot-nosed know-it-all.
Briisebrom bonded the most naturally with her father, mostly because Briisebrom was unknowingly independent enough to never seek her father’s love, which he gave unconditionally to all his children anyway. His research on dragons, the Dragonborn, and ancient Nordic culture fuelled her imagination and her unaffected enthusiasm for his studies endeared his only daughter to him.
