2012 Top Fashion Brands

As we get closer to the end of the year we can't help but  take a look back at what and who made the top searches in yes, FASHION! It comes to no surprise that brands like Michael Kors which we have highlighted in the past, have had an exceptional year. He has set the bar pretty high with his very successful ready to wear and accessories lines. Our First lady chose to wear one of his designs the night of the Election and numerous celebrities have also made great red carpet appearances in his dresses. Following Kors in this category is Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Ralph Lauren. Stella McCartney also has had an enormously successful year. Not only is she the most Googled designer but this year she designed team GB Olympics designs, won two British Fashion awards and has received major acclaim for her last two design collections. Bravo!

An American Fashion Favorite: Michael Kors

When it comes to a Fashion Designer who captures the spirit of the American design none other comes to mind than Michael Kors. Personally, I have not met a friend, relative or social media Fashion darling that does not own a piece of the Kors massive collection. I myself have been a fan for years. Frankly, how can you not be? Michael Kors is not just a designer, but a brand and a lifestyle. If you are looking for great quality, exceptional design with a classic and versatile style then Kors is your man! Some of you may know him as the man behind the label, others may remember him as the sassy and no holds barred judge from the hit show "Project Runway".  Michael was born Karl Anderson Jr. but by age five changed his name. He is from Long Island, New York,  was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology and is a celebrity magnet when it comes to Fashion. He also designed Michelle Obama's dress for her very first official portrait. The Michael Kors brand is known for its flawless tailoring, timeless pieces of ready to wear, handbags, shoes, jewelry and accessories. Season after season he brings his touch of American glamour to his collections with detail, modernity and edge. He knows just how to enamor us with his style and we can't get enough. Beyond the Runway - Coat Trends F/W 2012

The cooler days of autumn has made it's grand arrival. With the falling of the orange-red leaves, the growing demand of the pumpkin spice everything also comes the beginning of the outerwear season. As the temperatures begin to dip we begin to assess our coat closets. Before we know it we find ourselves on the hunt for a new coat. The next question is... so what is trending right now? What suits my style best? Well sit back and grab your hot chocolate, herbal tea or latte and let One Style at a Time fill you in on what trends made a strong presence on the runway for Fall-Winter 2012.  Designers brought an array of styles, colors and trims that range from the classic trench, belted coats with touches of fur and leather. As far as style Stella McCartney, Phillip Lim and Jil Sander introduced us to the menswear inspired oversized coat and this trend has quickly become a top contender for this season. Other sophisticated styles that made statements were the capes and blanket coats.  Another re-occurring favorite is the military style done exquisitely by Victoria Bekham, Ferragamo, and Hillfiger. If you are a fan of color, then you will be happy to know that Calvin Klein, Elie Saab among others had collections that included color blocking, solid brights and jewel tones. Look for the vibrancy of cobalt blue, orange, yellow and reds. If you are more on the conservative side black, navy, brown and camel are always the reigning keepers. There were two common denominators with designers this season and that is leather and fur. From short cropped jackets to longer versions, leather was seen everywhere on the runway. The same can be said about fur as labels like Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Donna Karan and BCBG included this texture in their collections. So there you have it Fashionistas... This fall there is no shortage of choices and there are some chic trends that will bring a touch of luxe to your winter season. So now the question is what will keep you warm in the cold of winter? Do you prefer classic styles or will you venture into some of these trends? Do you prefer a boxier cut or something more cinched at the waist?

Fall 2012 Color Trend Alert!

Spring and Summer 2012 was by far one of the most colorful with neons and bright colors everywhere. This time designers have taken a bit more of a subtle approach for Fall-Winter 2012. The season will definitely be filled with colors, patterns and textures but this time the neon is getting toned down and warmed up with more jewel tone hues. Designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Michal Kors, BCBG Max Azria, Burberry, and Versace were just a few that showed a variety of colors in their runway shows. 

One Style at a Time is bringing you our top favorite color trends spotted on the runway and already making its way to stores near you. The color palette includes cobalt blue, bordeaux, deep teal, primrose yellow, tangerine and of course plenty of classic red everywhere!

If you're not a big fan of too much color in your wardrobe... well you're in a for a treat. Basic staples like black noir, burnt orange, chocolate brown, beige, nude and animal prints will continue to go strong this coming season. You will easily be able to use your basic colors and mix them with any one of these rich tones. Have you spotted any Fall wear you can't wait to get your hands on? Kaelen's Fall 2012 Modern Minimalism

One of the shows that made quite an impression early on at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was the one by Kaelen.

Kaelen Haworth is a Toronto native and Parsons graduate who presented a beautiful collection for Fall 2012. The designs had a strong Art Deco inspiration. The models wore laced vintage dresses and tops, cutout out sleeves, boxy trousers, gold accented blouses, skirts and printed pantsuits with bow ties. It was a minimalist aesthetic with a 20's reference yet still keeping with its modernity. Here are a few photos from the presentation at Lincoln Center.

BCBG MAXAZRIA FALL 2012 SHOW: NYFW

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is in full effect as we speak. With shows being presented at Lincoln Center and throughout the city at local museums, art galleries and more. Thursday morning it was BCBG Max Azria's show that One Style at a Time attended. It was as expected a very large crowd of fashionistas and the who's who of Fashion magazines were at front row among many others. The very first look that hit the runway was a personal favorite and set the tone for the looks to come. A cream leather canvas and trench coat. Geometric and architectural shapes and color blocked patterns  seemed to be a theme throughout the collection with neutral tones, chiffon's and rich textures. It was a sense of lightweight fabrics paired with fur trims, and wools. The color palette seen here included creame's burgundy, navy, camel with touches of black, greens, and yellow. Chic city simplicity with touches of luxe and color makes this collection one that stands out for Fall-Winter 2012.

Rock & Roll with VEDA Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

The scene was very Rock & Roll at the art gallery 'The Hole' in downtown NYC. 

Lindsay Butler, designer for the brand VEDA presented models on a platform with a graffiti backdrop as they posed and danced to the live music of girl band, Bad Girlfriend. It was a flirtatious and powerful presentation as the models posed and held disposable cameras which were also provided for the guests to use for photos. 

Expected were great leather jackets, pants, skirts and vests pieces. Also seen were tapestry type prints mixed with leather in ruby and sapphire. A great combination with glitter colored shoes by Nine West and great jewelry accents by Pamela Love. VEDA's inspirations included but not limited to Persian rugs, David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and "I Dream of Jeanie".
