BREAKING: Straight A's Streak Continues

Fall semester 2024 is in the books and all my grades are back. In all my classes I either stayed even or improved my grades since midterms.

I know that those of you who have followed me for some time know that I went to college against the wishes of my overly dominating and legalistic mother. She told me that I would fail college. I was smart in High School so I had no reason to believe her. Thus far I have completed eight semesters and have straight A's. Yes, that is right, straight A's - a perfect 4.0. I do not say that to spite my mother. My mom has been nothing but a thorn in my side since I started. All I know is that it is nice to prove her wrong. I do not say that arrogantly. It just feels good to know I am not what she thinks I am (which includes such a choice moniker as "the Spawn of Satan").

One more semester to go for my B.S. and then continuing for my Masters and PhD (I am on track for a PhD but will determine whether or not to get it as I go).

Here are my final grades

Statistical Learning I (95% A - +1%)

Computational Physics (96% A - Even)

Partial Differential Equations I (96% A - +2%)

Soft Matter and Biological Physics (94% A- - +1%)

Mechanics (95% A - Even)

So I am smart and sassy and smol all rolled up into one tidy little package. Now I just want to be wild and engage in some unspeakable acts. 🤪

Fall ‘19 Classes

This semester I’m taking:

FMS 245: Melodrama and Power: Genre, Gender and Race with Sebnem Baran

ENG 200: The English Literary Tradition I with Jessica Catherine Beckman

THE 261 Writing for the Theatre with Leonard Berkman

ENG 332 Servants in Literature and Film with Ambreen Hai

If you’ve been following my blog, you know that last spring I only registered for two of the classes I’m taking! This is one of the blessings of Smith’s open curriculum, and one of the many reasons why I’m so glad it’s easy to get into the classes you want to take at Smith. At the beginning of the semester, I got into ENG 332, which prompted some scheduling changes. I wouldn’t have it any other way though- all my classes compliment each other so nicely.

A bit about my classes:

ENG 332 is a seminar, which are normally restricted to juniors and seniors. This mean that I had to get special permission to take it! To get approved, I emailed the professor at the end of last semester asking if she would consider letting me into the class. I then submitted an application to take the class, and found out I got in on the first day of classes! After sitting in on the first class, I decided I wanted to take it, so I then formally petitioned the Registrar to allow me to enroll. I was a little nervous, but the process turned out to be super easy! My professor and the head of the English department just signed a form giving me permission to enroll, my liberal arts advisor sent an email stating his support, and I wrote a statement. I then turned in my papers to my class dean, and she approved my enrollment during the next class deans meeting!

ENG 200 is required for all English majors! I was a little nervous going in because I haven’t read a lot of older English literature before, but my teacher has led the class with so much enthusiasm, it’s impossible not to enjoy it! We kicked off the year with Beowulf, and just finished reading some Chuacer last week.

FMS 245 is my first film class ever! I’m so glad I decided to branch out and take it, we’ve watched some great films (like If Beale Street Could Talk), some cheesier ones (A Star is Born) and one of my best friends (from my first year seminar actually) is in it.

Overall, I’m super excited to see how this semester turns out!

Only six more days before I start college as a culinary art student 👉👈 I'm both nervous and excited about it. Mainly nervous about college stress and homework, but nothing a planner can't help me organice 🙄

2018 Fall Classes start today!

These images are from the 1968 edition of The Ivy & show that campus life hasn’t changed too much in the last 50 years. You can find these images and many more in the UWM Yearbooks digital collection. The Ivy was published from 1942 to 1968. Here are some interesting facts:

In 1968 the new library, that would be named after Golda Meir in 1979, was just turning a year old.

In the spring of 1968, the Black Student Union at UW-Milwaukee was formed.

Finals are beginning today, and I hope to maintain my straight A's. I estimate a 98.879% probability of success, but I must still perform well.
