Finally the heat is letting up and it's possible to start thinking about fall. The trends are all about dark colors, structure and minimalism. With the addition of a few key pieces you will be able to update your wardrobe for the season without spending a fortune. I've created a shopping guide that is cheap chic. In other words, the pieces are on-trend, expensive-looking, but most importantly affordable. I also strongly believe in revamping your wardrobe from season to season rather than replacing it completely, so keep in mind generic pieces that you can take from last fall. Mixing high and low pieces allows you to get the fashion-forward look you want without spending a fortune and it pushes your creativity, which is the soul of fashion.
Below are pieces you can get to bring your current wardrobe into this new season. Most of the options are below $50 and look fantastic.
This is a great accessory because you can pair it with everything from a t-shirt to a button up blouse, and look put-together.
I bought this last year at H&M and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. It can be worn over so many things and gives any coat or jacket you wear the luxe-look of a fur collar. Luckily, they have brought it back again this year and in other colors.
This is a great, structured everyday bag.
Wearing a graphic scarf is the best way to update your wardrobe this fall because you can pair it with any plain tee or sweater you currently have to instantly be on-trend. Not to mention they are inexpensive, so you can get two or three.
This is the trend shape for fall and this top is a great way to get the look without spending too much.
Oversized Sweater, $14.95
This is a great piece to have in your closet because you can throw it on with almost anything. I bought this sweater two sizes larger than normal so that it would be slouchy.
This is a practical heeled boot at just two inches and looks great with skinnies and a big sweater.
Leopard isn't going anywhere for fall. This can dress up a plain top and skinny jeans.
Printed Silk Trousers, $89.90
Silk prints for pants are the ultimate luxury this fall. These pants give that look for less. Be sure to pair it with a top with texture rather than silk because you could end up looking like you wore your pajamas out of the house.
We've seen printed denim on the runway for fall 2012 and spring 2013.
Adding volume to a mini skirt is a big trend for fall. I love the femininity of feathers, and styled with an over-sized sweater as shown here is ultra chic.
I love this particular jacket because it looks expensive. I've found that faux leather jackets with faux suede detailing look more expensive. This is a cheap chic piece that can go horribly wrong if you choose the wrong color or cut- stick with a simple silhouette in black.
What are your favorite pieces for fall? How do you transition your wardrobe from season to season?
