Dreading confrontation was a natural response, one that he felt rather strongly whenever he contemplated what it was he’d actually say to Elijah once the time came to see him again. Connor may have pushed back the day that he returns home farther than he’d like... which would have been the morning after Elijah had told him to go, but it was good for him to take time and collect his thoughts. Plus, he enjoyed spending time with Hank, and Sumo. He puts in reminders in his schedule to check up with Hank in the future to see if they could do this more often. Connor coming over to see him, not Connor blowing-up at Elijah and calling Hank to pick him up.
Returning home was nice as well. He was still dogless, which he figures would be for the best until Elijah was comfortable enough to take the time to go out with him - he can learn to be patient.. and he was still in the same outfit he wore when he left. All of his clothes were still at Elijah’s house, and he hadn’t stopped by to grab whatever he may need while staying at Hanks. He wonders for a brief moment if he should knock, wait until Elijah answers the door to see him - but he reminds himself that he lives here, and even if he was still upset he told Connor that he may be spending a few days away from home himself to try to recalibrate.
The time spent away should have been enough for Connor to know what to do now - but he runs into Elijah while on his way to find a spare change of clothes, to clean himself up and try to make himself look presentable before he spoke with Elijah, and he suddenly is questioning the strategy of not making his presence known before running into him.
