Verity was a good student. She always had been. Even now, when she was mostly there out of amusement, she had read the assignments and always had a journal on hand to take notes - she preferred the old-fashioned way, after all. When class was open for discussion, she always argued her point but kept a civil tongue. Night courses were interesting to her - always an odd mix of people who took them because they were working during the day, building professions of night lives - musicians, etc, or, in her case, vampires. She hadn’t run into any others on campus. She pondered this as she adjusted the journal and textbook on her desk, watching students enter the room.

“Verity,” Castiel said gently, “let’s go back home.” Verity smiled faintly, fingers delicately tracing his cheekbones. “Why, Castiel? We don’t have to fear the sunset. Monsters don’t come at night.” Her hands slowly dropped to her side. “They come all the time.” She started to shake slightly, bringing her hands up in front of her face to examine them for a long moment, before looking back at her friend’s face. “And-and heroes come, too. Sometimes. Dramatically, high up on a building. Just when needed. T-to save the damsel. But I’m not wearing some fancy dress. I don't wear dresses.” She turned away, laughing. “And there’s no monster to fight. The monster’s in me. I’m monster.” She stumbled slightly as she walked away from her friend. Castiel followed her nervously. “You aren’t a monster, Verity.” He said, trying to keep his voice steady, calm. Verity let out a long, musical laugh.

hey! i saw your post for your followers introducing themselves so hi! Also i made this really weird like vegetarian meatball thing bc i have been veggie for like a year and i honestly don't know how i survived for this long without learning how to cook but like when i first made it, IT WAS HEAVEN SENT AND I ATE IT (a pound of mushrooms is apparently too much for one day) and yeah that's all there is too me haha

Foot in The Water

Ballet shoes. Caring friends. An argument about to happen.

Verity rolled up the legs of her sweatpants, sitting down gratefully in the chair in her room. She sighed, closing her eyes as she dipped her feet into the warm, Epsom salt water. It had been a long day of ballet rehearsal, and her hair curled more than usual down her back from being in a tight bun all day.

“Hello.” The gruff voice made Verity jump slightly. “Hello, Castiel. Didn’t know you were in.” She smiled, running a hand through her hair. “I just returned. What’s wrong with your feet?” He asked, staring intently at her feet. “Nothing, just ballet.” “It must be very bad if they haven’t healed for you.” Verity shrugged, “It’s a part of the job.”

Castiel tilted his head, watching her feet through the water. “Let me heal them.” He said tersely. “Oh, no, I’m fine.” Castiel frowned, “But you’re in pain. Let me help.” “Castiel, thank you, but I’m fine.” “Why don’t you let me help, Verity?”

“I’m fine.” Verity insisted. “Please, let me do something to help.” Castiel said insistently. “Don’t worry about it.” “It won’t be any trouble. Please, let me help.” Verity sighed, “Castiel, really, I’m fine. I’m just going to soak my feet, take a shower, and go to bed.”

“Verity, I do not like seeing you in pain. Let me help you.” Verity shook her head, “I’m fine, Castiel.” She said, covering a yawn. “Verity, please.” Castiel said grumpily.

On the Safe Side

Verity was leaning against the doorframe of her changing room, talking to two other cast members. “That monologue is so long, I have no idea how you can recite it all at once.” One of them, Marie, smiled. The other one, Amber, laughed with a shrug. “Well, before I started doing musicals, I was trained as a Shakespearean actor.” “Really?” Verity smiled, “That’s great.” “What was the last Shakespeare play were you in?” Marie asked. “Mac--” Amber was cut off as Marie clamped a hand over her mouth. “’Angels and ministers of grace defend us!’” Verity quoted quickly, “Just to be on the safe side.

“Verity, what’s wrong?” A gruff voice came from within the room as Castiel appeared. Verity pushed him slightly with her foot into the costume rack. “Who was that?” Amber asked, pulling Marie’s hand away. “My friend.” Verity said with an innocent smile. “Yeah, but...where’d he come from?” Marie asked. “He’s on speaker phone. It’s not like he’s a ghost from Denmark,” She laughed, before whispering, “Or a floating dagger.” They all burst into laughter.

“Alright, well, we should go put our costumes up. We’ll see you tomorrow, Ver.” Amber said as they turned to leave, Marie waving. Verity closed the door once they were gone, sighing with relief. “Sorry about that, Castiel.” She said, turning as she carefully removed her wig. “What are you doing here?” “I thought you called for me. Angels and minister of grace? That’s me.”
