More Than Testing || Lorna & Open || Post-XMFC AU
Setting: Exactly three years after the events of X-Men: First Class.
Location: Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, Westchester County.
Background: One month ago, Lorna Dane showed up at the mansion after being found by Charles Xavier. Upon her arrival, she was escorted to the labs by the Professor where she was informed of her relations with Magneto. In the next few days that ensued, a Mutant by the name of Mesmero showed up in an attempt to take her away. Now, things are starting to settle. It’s getting easier. But what exactly does it mean to be an X-Man?
NOTE: Lorna’s background is based on this audio drama. The characters can be adapted to fit the XMFC storyline. Also, please ignore the fact that Lorna had shown up in DOFP as a kid…
Two young adults, rushed towards the same room at the same time, the male laughing loudly as the green-haired female followed behind, annoyed by the fact that he was faster on his feet than she was. As Sean Cassidy slipped through the gap in his bedroom doorway and locked the door behind him, Lorna Dane losing by being two seconds too late. She stared at the door, a frustrated pout on her face as on the other side, he gave out a loud guffaw.
“That’s not even funny, Sean!” Lorna cried, slamming a hand against the wood before reaching for the doorknob. She hoped he’d get stuck inside. That would serve him right for swapping the salt and the sugar in the kitchen. Oldest trick in the book and yet she hadn’t seen it coming. She needed to be just as sneaking as he was. God, Sean was hard to get along with, but get along she did. After all, there were worse people in the world. Like her father for instance. She hadn’t spoken to the man, and didn’t intend to, but she had heard about what had happened in Cuba after a brief break down from Charles, and to find out that she was related to him had been a shock beyond all words. But the school was a safe place, and she could believe that now.
There was a growing handful of them living in the mansion, and no doubt Charles was keeping tabs on their activity. Recently he had been reaching out for more students, picking up teachers along the way and taking them into his welcome arms to educate and be educated. She supposed it was worth it if people were getting something out of it. Before her arrival, Lorna had thought of herself as one of the oddities that was spoken about in hushed voices, eyes following as she made her way through town. Now she was on a team of people like her.
“Come out, you idiot!” She groaned, giving the handle another tug before kicking the door frame and giving in. She didn’t have the energy for this. Not after spending an entire day with the Professor himself, practicing and working on her strengths and weaknesses while Hank took notes in the background. That was what happened with such a small amount of students, you see. Everyone got at least one one-to-one session with the man in charge. It was both a good and a bad thing. “Urgh!”
Come now, Lorna. He’s just testing you.
“Thanks for that, Prof. But he’s always just a little bit more than testing.”
