Galdurain’s Theology: The Quick and Dirty

For beings of magic, theology is easy. In fact, it’s dictated. Those who exhibit magic are sent to schools for such as young children and taught by the acolytes and teachers there about the Court of Immortals. The Court is both the governing body of mages, the ones with the final say on judgment of massive crimes and the way lesser ones ought be handled; as well as the gods which drive the world, which make it turn and breathe and die. Active servants of the court serve a particular god upon the court and are in essence government workers and priests all in one. Those who wield magic, as well as the people close to them, believe quite heartily in the Court.

This is the most prominent of religions, as it is in a way provable. The gods of the Court are not so detached that people do not understand their existence. They are simply not active in the lives of every being, as they are not omniscient gods. They are closer to the polytheistic mythology of the Greeks- gods who focus on one role and that role alone. But the gods like Laeren and Daedra ( Lord of Life and his sister Lady of Death ) do spread far and wide, through a network of their acolytes and bearers. As such, the gods’ influence permeates society.

Certain members of the Court are worshipped individually as the gods they are- there are religious factions that revere Gaedos in their role as the embodiment of Galdurain, and those who worship Laeren and Daedra as the driving forces of Life and Death. In a way, they are not considered heathens because they do believe in portions of the Court, but full mages often find them hard to get along with. These worships often take place in areas devoid of magic, areas that are far from the main path of the River. As such, Magida is rarely worshipped alone. However, those who do worship her and her alone are considered to be some of the worst zealots, as they denounce the rest of the Court as weak or unnecessary. These zealots who call themselves Aegidans ( the Shields of Magida ) are most often directly at odds with her servants.

Some beings denounce the Court entirely. These are often the beings of the Outer Islands, beings so far removed physically from most of society that they stop caring. Their mages are not sent to schooling. Instead, these beings worship themselves, focusing on an inner spirituality and the power of the self above all else. Through that spirituality, that deep analysis of their eternal being, they find the clarity and understanding that is necessary for proper magical usage. They are the chargers of their own destiny, the drivers of their lives, the dealers of their deaths. Truly most beings in the Outer Islands are beings known for near-limitless lifespans, such as the Zephaeren, Children of the Wind, or the Gaedosa, spirits of nature given sentience. In casual terminology, they are the fae and golems.

Charrine, as a direct servant of the Court ( the First Guardian of Soul, Magida’s highest servant ) is obviously a proponent of the major religion. Aria is as well, as she is a Catalyst and thus under constant direction and observation by the Court. Elior is a worshipper of Daedra and Laeren, but has a very hard time grasping the full theology of the Court as a whole. Tyr, as a fae, is from the Outer Realms. She only acknowledges the Court for their power of Aria.

"How much you want to bet this is about why she's disappeared so much? Always comes back broken, sadder, but still determined? I bet.... Just hope she knows what she's doing. Her and her friend," she went on before parting Lili's head and moving back to her things and getting a few things tidied up. "You'd be surprised the amount of secrets around here, Lili. Dark pasts, who people really are, events that plague the mind, crush them, kill them little by little.... yet they keep it secret. They stay silent. The human mind is a complex sort of thing. And in the end, even if we need the help... so few people voice it." The Medoc couldn't help but to pause a moment before she started to laugh and adjust her glasses some. A sad little smile came to her lips as she then looks out the window, gazing at the moon. The woman runs a hand through her hair a moment before she then turns around and shakes her head. "But I can't say I don't do the same thing. I push aside my own feelings, fears, doubts, in an attempt to smile at my patients and friends and reassure them, they'll be okay. They'll be fine, and back on their feet in no time. It's what you do as a doctor. You're the light of hope for survival.... when the doctor crumbles, who is there left? A puzzling question, huh?" Monika went on before going back to her work, then hearing someone at her door. "Back to being the doctor again." The door opened, and Monika turns around, giving the girl a kind and warm smile. She nods towards her, walking over to her. However, she does give the girl her space, as she typically liked between her and Medics especially. "Hallo, dear. Is something wrong?"
