Anubis: How do you feel about death? Hmm I’m not entirely sure. I really want to know what happens when you die and it’s a topic that’s endlessly fascinating to me, but I’m not sure if I’m quite ready to die any time soon (I do want to die somewhat young though because I have this terrible fear of the repercussions of growing old)

it also got really long, so.

He’s actually asleep, and would really like to stay asleep, but it’s 4:56am and he’s being woken up by crappy pop music. The ringtone Kate set for Teddy on his phone, right. He sits up impressively quickly for that hour of night, trying not to yawn as he answers the phone. “Ted? Wuzamatter?”

“Please come get me,” there’s an edge of fear to Teddy’s voice, and Billy sits up a little straighter. “I’m really sorry, I know you were probably asleep-”

“And you weren’t?” He’s out of bed in an instant, debating for a moment before donning that god damned fucking uniform. At least it made a statement. “Where are you?!”

He hears Teddy gulp for air, and he clenches the phone tighter in his fist. “Not sure.” Teddy finally manages. “I think - not far. From your place. Shouldn’t be hard, fuck.”

“Just-” he waves his hand around slightly, trying to focus, trying to think. “I’m coming, just sit tight, I’ll be right there, don’t do anything stupid, you hear me?” He pauses as he starts out his door, turning violently after a moment of thought and opening his window. “Stupider than you already have, at least. What the hell were you doing?”

Teddy’s laugh is weak and soft, and if he wasn’t worried before, he definitely is now. “Patrolling. Kinda. Please don’t hate me.”

He sighs softly, dangling his legs over the window ledge. “Never could. I’ll be on my way in an instant. Can I hang up? Is that okay?”

“Yeah.” Teddy sounds almost painfully breathless, and this is so not fun. “Just. Come quick, okay?”

“Of course.” It hurts to hang up, but he knows enough about spellcasting and technology to know that if he tries to find Teddy while talking on the phone, it would fry his third phone in the past month, and he didn’t think his parents were going to be very understanding again.

He’s gotten better since the fight with Mother, and closes his eyes slightly, imagining Teddy’s face superimposed upon itself, hundreds of thousands of times over, every single microexpression layering itself in his mind. “IwanttofindTeddyIwanttofindTeddyIwanttofindTeddy

IwanttofindTeddy…” He’s muttering to himself as he slides out the window, and ow, fuck. He probably should have thought to cast, like, a flying spell first, or teleport himself from the window, but no, that would be too easy. At least it was only a single story.

He’s still muttering as he dusts himself off, but now there’s a glowing blue path appearing in front of him. Great, because he really knew how to be inconspicuous. Maybe he was the only one who could see it, anyways. That would work. Although, as long as he found Teddy, he didn’t think it mattered.

The path leads him to this dark alleyway, of course, because both of their luck sucks. Teddy is hunched over against the wall, holding his ankle. He looks up when Billy comes closer, and smiles. Billy loses complete control over the spell, and the path dissipates before him. “Idiot,” he whispers, taking a few more steps forward and kneeling next to Teddy, inspecting his quickly. “Shit, are you bleeding?”

“Maybe?” Teddy shrugs, looking miserable and tired but also - extremely happy. What an idiot. “I just - I think I did something to my ankle while trying to do a dramatic exit, and, well. I didn’t know who else to call. And for some reason, it’s not healing as fast as it should. Probably just tired, but I also really wasn’t feeling the need to sit and wait here until something happened.”

“Shut up, you nerd,” Billy mutters, sliding his arm around Teddy’s back, “I should always be the first person you call in an emergency.” He laughs softly, flooded with a really large amount of relief. “You had me ridiculously worried, you big dick.”

Teddy leans forward, knocking his forehead gently against Billy’s. “I know. I like getting you riled up, it’s kinda funny.”

“I’m not cut out for this,” he whispers back, drifting gentle fingers over Teddy’s ankle. He doesn’t even have to say anything this time, just draws on the power he still feels burning inside of him and pushing it as hard as he can into Teddy’s ankle. The blond winces slightly, but it fades away and is replaced by a smile.

“Nice trick. Can we go home now?”

He rises to his feet, stretching out his hand for Teddy to take. “Yeah. Yeah, we can.”
