I don't there's been a single playthrough where I haven't dodged the boulder a bear traps of Black Mt to get my hands on the implants early game.
Does it make sense from a character roleplay perspective? No. But I do it anyways, bc easy access to the north of the Mojave is just too good to pass up.
God, I hope they don't screw with this in the remake.

I really like the Old Cowboy hat, especially on Arcade. It's goofy, yet dapper enough to look nice, and gives him a bit of a ye olde doctor vibe. Also it looks like the Jamiroquai hat. Yep.
