so you expect a real slave to portray a slave? because they probably won't have as much talent, but otherwise it wouldn't be realistic/fair enough? i really can't understand that you get offended by speeches jared held to thank everybody. if you win something like an oscar or an golden globe you're extremely nervous and you try to mention everybody you wanna thank. and you people have to tear every single word apart and analyse it? i'm sorry, but he's amazing and he pays so much respect to LGBTs
This is the third time I’ve seen someone use this example: so you expect a real slave to portray a slave?
I don’t know why people are so excited to compare trans people to slaves. While I can’t speak to the impact of having a “real slave” portray a slave, many trans advocates and their allies can speak to the adverse impact of having a cis man play a trans woman. Many people have made it clear they do not feel respected by Leto’s performance or comments.
The fact that you assume that trans actresses “probably won’t have as much talent" as cis men speaks more to your own biases than any actual reality.
[And just for kicks, for the sake of assuming the “slave” comparison has any actual validity…as far as I am aware casting actors who were never enslaved to play slaves does not adversely impact representations of slavery; however, casting actors from racial/ethnic/cultural groups affected by slavery would have a huge impact on the portrayal of the role. It would be disturbing, for example, if a white actor had been cast to play Solomon Northrup.]
Yep, this.
