ever since her own solo career had taken off, suji couldn’t find the time to write for her own group. in the past, even if it wasn’t a lot, she would still try her best to participate as much as she could. whether that meant scribbling down a few lyrics or humming a melody in the studio for the songwriters, she liked being able to melt into equinox’s color and feel like she was contributing more to the group. 

thankfully, she had found some time in her schedule for the first time in a while. the time also happened to overlap with an upcoming equinox comeback which meant that the door had opened once more, and she was determined to get her inputs into the new single album. the two years or so she spent working on her own music must have pulled off because they were pretty accepting of what she had to offer. 

after the full group recording had ended, she stayed behind to record chorus parts like she always did. it was nothing that was asked of her, but if someone had to fill in the chords and some of the background vocals, she thinks it would just be better if she did it. plus, some of the harmonies would need some tweaking once their voice tracks were compiled and being the one to come up with a good portion of the melody, she wanted to be there when it happened. 

“it’s been a while since you participated in a group song, right? been so busy as a soloist.” one of the producers strike up a conversation first, and suji lets out a rather awkward laugh at first. she knows it’s not meant to be an attack of any sort, but she can’t help but feel a bit of guilt. it’s a repertoire that’s been used before against her so though her head is telling her that it’s not meant to be accepted in such a way, her heart can’t help but get a little defensive. 

“yeah, but i guess gold star finally decided to let me rest.” it wasn’t a full rest, however, since she did have filming the next day. she had less scenes than the last season, but she was still expected to show up on set early on. the perks that came with being a rookie actress. hopefully, her acting career ends with this. she doesn’t think she could last another drama filming session. 

nevertheless, that didn’t change the fact that she was indeed a lot less busier compared to the past. “i jumped onto the opportunity when i saw that my schedule was empty!” she’s not as close to this group of producers so there’s still a professional facade that she can’t seem to shake away. 

to her luck, the conversation ends there and she’s left to sit there as the finishing touches on the track are made. though it’s been a while, she feels at home within the gold star media studios. sitting here as she listens to the final mixing being done on equinox’s upcoming title track that she participated in brings an odd level of comfort to her heart. 

perhaps she should find more time for this in the future. no matter how busy her own solo promotions may get.

q1 schedule self para 001: galaxy party - welcome to andromeda

what: joohyun’s solo stage, covering @minjungfmd "ending scene”  where: andromeda’s fanmeeting when: march 27, 2022 

they give joohyun the very first solo stage of the night.

after she had announced she would very much like to be able to cover a song for that stage, sitting down and offering nothing other than her vocals, it was agreed that it would be best for her to do so before she had the chance to get even remotely tired from performing the groups’ songs. as much as dimensions isn’t in the business of putting her vocals as her selling point, they are very much aware she is one of the main vocalists of the group and it’s best for them if she showcases a quality performance.

without a solo song to perform, even so much as an OST, joohyun has no option but to pick a song to cover. it’s not a difficult choice for her to make, and her manager seems satisfied with the options she offers before they choose two different ones for each day of the fanmeeting.

as soon as she steps backstage, a stylist is waiting for her with the white dress she’s supposed to wear. joohyun doesn’t bother questioning styling decisions anymore, and at least it’s a better choice than the pink one they had her wearing the day before. someone wipes down her forehead while someone else removes the headset mic from her, and yet someone else unzips the outfit she was wearing.

everything joohyun does backstage is on automatic, following whatever guidance is thrown her way as she sips her water. joohyun is given less than five minutes to change and be back on stage, and she uses every single moment of this break to recharge.

when the spotlights are turned back on after the VCR that worked as a momentary pause for the fanmeeting, the fans find joohyun sitting on a stool in the middle of the stage. joohyun smiles as they scream for her, even if it’s a bit more subdued than other members would’ve gotten. she starts speaking as soon as the venue quiets back down.

“thank you so much for coming tonight, i hope you’re enjoying out fanmeeting so far,” she can’t help the genuine joy as the fans respond. as little time as she’s given to be a singer the way she trained to be, joohyun can’t help loving being on stage. “yesterday i got to sing insooni sunbaenim’s father for the audience, but tonight i decided to sing something different. it’s a song with lyrics that talk about a relationship that is now over. it is very sad but i like it a lot and i hope you enjoy my performance of it.”

as joohyun pauses, the song’s first chords start playing. “this is minjung sunbaenim’s ending scene.”

simply staring at the outfits she’s been given as well as the sets that they’ll be performing in, jaein can’t help but wonder just how much money gold star has poured into this comeback. business-wise, it made sense. their last comeback has done phenomenally well—as evident by how busy she’s been the past couple of months—which probably meant that they had lots more money to spend. the group has become known for having expensive looking outfits and music videos, and it was logical to continue that. 

however, none of that really mattered when she was exhausted herself. having her solo album come only a few weeks before ultraviolet’s comeback was dumb to say the least, and she wonders why gold star couldn’t hold back on the release. it would have sounded better with warmer weather anyway, and she wouldn’t have had to suffer through filming that music video when it was barely thirty degrees outside. 

jaein wanted to assume that her hardest scenes were over. she’s been awake for over thirty hours now with maybe a few hours of napping in between. but even that was limited because it would lead to bloating, and she had to constantly be on standby. she thinks the filming wouldn’t take half as long if the company wasn’t greedy with the intricate sets, but she’s learned to deal with. what was she going to do if she didn’t want to go along with it anyway, right? 

next on her list of things to do was shoot an arrow. she’s taken some archery lessons when she was younger as it’s something her father convinced—forced would be the better word—her to do. unfortunately, when it became clear that she wasn’t going to bring home an olympic medal, her mother had cut off the lessons. it didn’t upset her, but she did have fun with the sport back then. 

those lessons would come in handy because they want her to shoot an arrow that’s on fire. it seems like a big safety hazard, especially with the head piece they have on her as well, but they tell her that, at the most, she’ll just be pulling on it and not actually shooting it. what that really means is that she’ll maybe get four seconds of screen time with the bow and arrow in her hand, but she’ll have to film for four to five hours. 

great. it’s never been easy earning money.

summary — while gyujeong preps for tour to sing a ‘solo’ song, some iffy choices lead to one song he stands firmly on. (spoiler: he chooses to cover equinox’s bad boy) warnings — none wc — 477

he’s been in this situation, more or less, a million and one times before. 

an over-exaggeration? yeah, probably. but that doesn’t take away from the fact he’s been lapping the same practice room over and over with a mic in his hand, going through the motions of one song to the next till it all bleeds out the same. it’s just noise at this point — periods of time where he’d been downright dull mood of the same cacophony ringing through the speaker with the same ments written in the lyrics.

but he doesn’t feel anything for the songs, least not in this moment. it doesn’t help when he’s rehearsed half of his discography, snippets of the chorus here and there with the little blips of input from his manager lingering on his corner. 

because in the end, it doesn’t matter.

it doesn’t matter becomes the status quo excuse for each reasoning he uses to brush off the workload. one comment, or one suggestion — it doesn’t matter when it all flies over the head of executives, and he’s nearly a headless chicken barking empty talks on the table. so, when he’s ready to go down the line and spin a random shuffle for the song he’s expected to perform, he resorts to the bare minimum (read his body language: lying down on the floor, staring at a blank ceiling as some rough demo of some track from four years ago plays in the background).

“i don’t want to rap — i always rap. if i have to rap to meteor or downtown baby one more time, i’ll lip sync to a song with no pre-recorded vocals.” it’s his resolution, huffing out a breath of frustration when his fingers stretch to hit pause on the screen.

“you’re being dramatic, gyujeong. you don’t have to rap, you could sing your other songs.”

“my other songs are also outdated and boring— i don’t want to sing a song that’s been over played. it makes my ears bleed.”

“you’re still being dramatic.” his manager pays no attention to him, pressing his seconds on his own phone. 

at the end, he being indecisive, and forming his own allergic reactions to the world around him. there’s no such thing as a perfect stage, and the crowd that fills the arena don’t give a shit leaving a barren sea of people who just nod their heads without engulfing themselves in the process of song. despite how many times he’s laid it out, it’s just a realization he’ll have to accept: songs don’t matter when they sell.

(because he’s a sell out).

gyujeong props himself back up, pressing his palms against the floor. balancing his forearms on his knees, he stares straight into the mirrors — some shitty reflection of himself. he pauses, tilting his head. “you know what, i’m just gonna sing bad boy instead.”

summary / starting her promotions with a behind the scenes vlog for equinox’s youtube channel. and she ends up filming herself as soon as she wakes up, enjoying the first sip of coffee. warnings / choppy writing?  wc / 415

“hello solstice.” her voice yields grogginess, stretching out languidly and a notch lower when her eyes barely crack open to the lens in her face. 

one quick look at the clock on her nightstand, and it’s nearly three am. tailored to the time people start hitting the peaks at night where their restraints come unhinged — outside, the world rambles loudly to its own hedonistic desires. meanwhile, she’s only a girl tethered to the chains of responsibility, one schedule after the next. and today’s early call and a mandatory vlog become the duties she upholds.

“today, i’m going to be taking you guys along with me for a day in promotions — it’s about 3:20 am, and i’m getting ready for a long day of music shows.” she pauses, lets out a yawn. stretches out her other free arm into the air, rolling her head back before turning back to the camera. “ing just got released, and i hope you all are enjoying this new album. i’m always thankful for your support.” a quick wink, and she’s forced to play to a role from the start. early mornings don’t stop idol duties when it extends past the nine to five.

“before my manager comes to pick me up, i like to start my day with coffee — while i do that, i’ll turn on some music.” 

so, she falls into candid shots, setting the camera aside, unplugging her phone to resume to whatever melody she left off on. etta james, and a good choice despite the inability to recognize the last time she fell into the long steam of jazz in the late night blues.

but she doesn’t care much, even manages to forget the camera when the shot of expresso brews in heavy huffs through the echoes of etta james’ voice. the scent, all to familiar, hot to touch before she plops one ice cube down to the next. a matter of waking up, even if this feeling’s all too familiar to know the coffee won’t do justice when she’s dozing off in the back of the van, in between the state of sleep.

she props her elbows down on the table, palm to cheek staring straight at the camera. “glamorous, isn’t it? my bloated face and this coffee on a wonderful 3 am morning. but this is only the beginning — and i can’t wait to show what’s left in store. you’ll be surprised how much you can manage from a twenty one hour work day.”

suji’s not sure if a group hiatus is supposed to feel this packed. it’s not that equinox had a lot on their plate. some last minute recordings done, some chorus work that she’s been asked to do, dance lessons here and there but nothing too big. that’s probably why the task to film vlogs feel like even more work. she’s never been the best at talking to a camera on her own without a clear purpose, and she thinks it’s going to be painfully obvious when these vlogs get released. of course, it may be totally different depending on how the editors decide to edit the video. at this point, s he’s going to have to fully depend on them. 

adjusting the camera in front of her, she checks her reflection one last time before speaking up. “hi, solstice,” she says with a gentle wave towards the camera. this part is a copy and paste from the last vlog she’s filmed, and she can’t help but chuckle at the reminder. that one was painful to film as well, and she can’t imagine how it would turn out. 

“this isn’t going to be all that fancy. i’m not good with that stuff,” she states though it’s a fact that most of her fans are already aware of. “but i’ve been working on a new song, and i thought it’d be interesting to include that? hopefully?” with another rather dry laugh, she rolls her chair back towards the keyboard that’s in her apartment studio. 

there’s nothing too fancy about the studio within her apartment seeing that the space isn’t big enough for all sorts of equipment. it’s the simplest setup that she could manage and at most, she’s usually just playing around with melodies and stuff. the soundproofing was a pain, and she thinks that if they were asked to film a vlog back then, it would have been more interesting than this. 

she makes a mental note to herself to remind the editors to mute most of the vlog where she’s actually working on the music. that may defeat the purpose, but she doesn’t think gold star would fancy her spoiling the whole song. a few sneak peaks here and there could definitely be released, and she’ll probably hum a couple of melodies that eventually make it to the final track. beyond that, however, she personally don’t want to reveal to the world just yet.

as always, she doesn’t even realize that time has passed as she works on cleaning up the melody line rough draft she’s recorded. taking a look at the camera, she realizes that the battery has died anyway. met by an unexpected situation, she laughs before rolliing over with her chair to put it down. 

well, hopefully they’ll have something to work with.

hilarious, but he’s far from a stranger to humor when it comes to forcing himself down the rabbit hole of promotions. it’s the limitation he places for himself when he’s in a cesspool of pointless schedules, back and forth, answering the same damn questions nobody gives a fuck to listen for. but he doesn’t make the rules, just follows them.

he’s chosen love when asked about the songs — the same stereotypical long lost lover, reunified, only to fall into that same bullshit cycle. it’s the cliche everyone feels they can relate to, but it’s the shit that sells. each time, they pretend to understand. probably went through it, too. in the end, the more they can relate to his answers, the more he doesn’t have to barge through gold star’s halls with a bullseye on his back.

then, there’s laughter when humor arises. the questions about his musical tastes, bridging past songs he’s wrote to the maturity that lends himself now. why he’s chosen more girl groups than boy groups, and why dimensions has never played a factor. they pry into shit that warrants the next headlines for the netizens, but he doesn’t feed them. instead, he just recoils inside laughter, tells each one to ask gold star.

but today, he chooses to live when he’s sitting inside radio promotions. the barging fans banging across the windows — if they would only shut the fuck up, but he can’t say that. he draws his gaze away from the glass, his eyes turned straight towards the mic when his mind is minimizing all the times he’s had to count away the seconds. but the question lands on him, some question he can’t decipher when he’s evidently not been paying attention for the past hour. 

“could you repeat the question?” (blunt humor, he’s living. give him a break.)

“yes — how did you end up here from the last touch you had in platinum’s discography?”

what’s living at this point when he’s not bearing any responses remotely close to the truth?

he shakes his head, “i don’t know.” well, there’s the truth. “it’s been a while, the process is long and confusing. i chose a minor key this time instead of major.” 

it garners some laughter, genuine or not from the mc, and he’s left once again to smear a smile and follow suit. he shoots a look at his member, nodding into some form of warped acknowledgement — he can’t read between the lines. in the end, he’s living. whatever that may be.

Eunyoung has some problems with anxiety and so many things in her world seem to be at x2 speed always. There are moments when she just wants to lay down and not have thoughts running in her head. Music has always helped her to calm down and bring her to a more decent pace. Folk music and acoustic renditions of songs will forever be a favorite for her, and Eunyoung could not recommend the genre enough. There is no bad moment to listen to this playlist, in her opinion. She can drive to it, spend her evening doing nothing, go out shopping, and even exercise when she has these songs by her side.

Eunyoung didn't know Calypso had gone viral until a lot later, and maybe that was for the best. She didn't have any schedules to attend, no places to be, no hair and makeup to be done. She was at home, with her phone turned off and nowhere near her computer. She listened to the songs in her playlist, and since they were already downloaded, she was purposefully avoiding any interactions with social media or anyone really that didn't live in the same apartment as her. That means that she had taken the day off to herself, and Eunyoung would enjoy it for as long as she could.

2022 didn't begin the way she wanted. Eunyoung had expected this year to be a lot better than the previous one, and she was counting on it until the news from Dimensions reached her years. Not having any intentions to make a group comeback was already heartbreaking as it is, but in Eunyoung's case, she was fully aware that Dimensions didn't have any plans for her in specific whatsoever. She is not a well-established actress like Aejeong is with so many dramas under her belt and a talent of gold when it comes to singing and performing. She's not creative like Sooyoung, who created amazing choreographies for them over the years. Eunyoung certainly isn't as well-rounded as their golden maknae is. Yena was everything she wished to be and more with her acting and variety presence. Comparatively, Eunyoung hasn't done a lot in the eleven years since her debut. For some reason, that started bothering her a whole lot more when there were no prospects of a comeback in their future.

"Of course, there are things I want to do," she says out loud to herself. Saying the words to the universe to hear and make it known that she's aware of her situation. "I've always wanted to release solo music, I've wanted to be part of the creative process of making songs for the longest time. I want to appear in variety shows more often, and I want to have more concerts with Calypso, too. Maybe even have a solo one, but for that to happen, I need people to know who I am, but I'm stuck," Eunyoung paces from side to side in her living room. 

The sound of The Amazing Devil is used as the background until she concludes. "It has been ten years since I debuted, and nothing is amazing on my CV. We'll need a miracle to make it out of this well. I should have focused on graduating in something useful for my parent's business," Eunyoung sighs in defeat and drops on her back on the floor. She can see the gray sky, and the cold is almost palpable even though she's inside and comfortable. She takes her phone off the coffee table and turns on the wi-fi for the first time.

Eunyoung's first thought when she sees all the notifications is that she, somehow, without leaving her home, got involved in some type of scandal. Her second thought is that Dimensions must have canceled their contract with Calypso to focus on their newer groups. It didn't matter how many thoughts she had, though, because under no hypothesis she would have thought that Rollin of all songs had gone viral. 

The moment she's decided to go through all that is happening, Eunyoung startles when her phone starts ringing.

"Eunyoung-ah, you won't believe in what is happening right now."
