Quick Review: Monte by Montecristo Jacopo #2

It's look is classic and iconic. The logo is simple but yet stands out. You have the classic top band, with the secondary band with a smooth modern twist to it. “Monte” is written across it. This is a unique-looking cigar because the box-press has four equal sides, not a usual rectangle. After firing up the Monte, the cigar has plenty of spice and leather on my palate, with a note of pepper. Also noted was a chocolaty finish. The Monte produced a good amount of smoke and the draw is near perfect. The strength is medium-bodied. 

Into the second third of the cigar, I'm finding the same flavor profile as the first third. I am still getting the blend of spice, leather, pepper and a good chocolaty finish. The construction in this third is as solid as it was in the first and it is producing a good burn line. The draw continues to be near perfect. 

In the last third, the flavors are more rich. The finish to the cigar is smooth yet creamy, with decent smoke with each draw taken. Overall the flavors have been consistent, enjoyable, and had a lot of flavors working. Towards the end, the cigar continued its great draw and great blend of flavors that I would revisit in the future. I thought this was a great cigar from Montecristo.

  Flavors:

The pre-light draw yielded notes of earthy flavors. After firing up this well-handcrafted Montecristo, nutty/creamy notes were primary, but faded quickly. The Montecristo then picked up woody and earthy flavor notes and they pretty much dominated the entire first half of this smoke. As the Montecristo moved into the second half, the same flavors kept their reign, and the nutty tone really made its appearance again and stuck to my palate. I also began to detect some faint coca notes that accompanied the woodiness. As I neared the end of this stick, strong leather notes dominated this cigar, along with some slight notes of licorice. When the Montecristo flawlessly ended as a nub, it finished with strong smooth leather notes.   

Construction / Burn:

The Montecristo is a well-constructed cigar. This was reflected in the burn and draw. As far as a burn perspective, I found this cigar to burn straight from start to finish requiring no touch-ups. The ash was firm enough to hang on for awhile, while producing decent smoke output.

The strength of the Montecristo is a firm medium smoke with some good flavor depth. 

Overall:

I’d recommend this to someone who likes a well balanced medium-bodied cigar. The Montecristo Robusto Platinum has excellent balance, fairly complex, and produces a nice woody aroma. I would definitely recommend this cigar, and would smoke again. Overall a good smoke!
