hamsters sleeping in cup beds - part 2 of 2 (video by hamster.family__room on IG)
Fancy Drinks
She orders something with smoke in it not the kind that hurts the kind that curls out of the glass like it's got secrets to keep
I say whiskey neat like I'm trying to prove something to someone who didn't ask
She laughs at the menu calls it "performative" then takes a photo of her drink like it's art Maybe it is
There's a record spinning somewhere cracking like an old apology and she tells me she only listens to bands that broke up before they got famous
I nod like I've been broken too
Her glasses catch the light two tiny moons hovering over a story she doesn't fully tell just hints at like the bartender with the mustache that definitely took effort
We talk about nothing important coffee shops that charge too much books we pretend we've finished cities we almost moved to
She says she likes people who don't try too had
I sip my drink slower after that
The smoke from her glass finally disappears and for a second if feels like whatever made this night specail might go with it
But she leans in close enough to blue the edges and says "Next round's on me."
And suddenly I don't care if it's fancy or cheap or just another bar trying to be something it's not
because she smiles like she means it and for once I believe maybe I don't have to pretend either

Friends, fam, sensory seeking gremlins of all kinds, I need you to know about switchel.
It's a super basic drink despite what some the recipes might say (I'll include my process at the bottom) and it burns in a way that provides sensory input, which is great. I don't drink booze anymore, but i definitely have my hot drink, cold drink, enrichment drink, sour thing, spicey thing, salty thing, sweet thing.. and this is a neat little part of that for me. My switchel:
3-6 tbsp apple cider vinegar depending on how burny I'd like it to be
1 tsp ground ginger (I'm not grating fresh ginger, fuck that)
3 tbsp fancy molasses (maple could work too, honey would probably work but I'm deathly allergic)
pinch of salt (idk if this is required but its optional and i have POTS so the salt is going in) ok so you mix all that with like a half cup of warm water and shake the fuck out of it. Then I fill the rest of the bottle with apple juice, cold water, cold tea, cranberry gingerale, or whatever the fuck else I have sitting around. Recipe says like 1-2 cups and I'm guessing its about a litre but like.. you really get to ADHD yolo this part.
Then, if I feel fancy I experiment more to this by adding like lemon juice or clove or pumpkin spice or whatever else I want.
anyway.. it seems weird, but it fits in the same category as my weighted blanket or the things i keep around me to touch now. Sensory is your friend. It's okay to seek sensory things, and some of them are totally alright for you.
I don’t drink alcohol but I love fancy glasses and colorful little drinks why is the world so cruel as to ruin that for me by adding alcohol
