Thank You! || KC AU Week 2020

This has been a fun week to stretch out my writing skills again, it’s been a while since I wrote in more than 250-word bursts. Thank you so much for reading, and I truly appreciate all the love and replies I’ve received! Something Tart (All Human) On his TV show, Klaus Mikaelson rescues failing restaurants. In all his experience, he’s never encountered a hidden gem quite like Caroline Forbes.

Resonant + Fair Game (Sci-fi/Fantasy) Inspired by the world of Onward, where technology edged magic out of daily existence because all creatures learned to adapt to a new life. Caroline might have taken the DNA test, but she doesn’t take her magical origins nearly as seriously as some people. Klaus, however, takes his birthright and the power it lends very, very seriously - but why would he kidnap an elf?

Falls Inn (Crossover/Fusion) Inspired by Schitt’s Creek: The Mikaelsons were swindled out of their fortune, and they are forced to leave New York and their entire lives behind when the only asset remaining to their name was a town bought as a gift. While the town was kind enough to put them up in the local motel, the receptionist isn’t all that thrilled to put up with them.

Pretty Good Bad Idea (Enemies to Lovers) As the CEO of admitted hellcorp Original, Klaus was used to professional criticism. Caroline, however, was really, really good at it.

Making Lemonade (Smut) With the quarantine in place, Klaus’s stag night had to be cancelled. Caroline is trying not to think about the likelihood they’ll have to cancel the wedding, too, so she tries to lift both their spirits…and something else.

Tagalong (Canon-ish) Enzo didn’t quite know what to do with Caroline Forbes, but he liked her. He even liked her sans humanity, though, probably not as much as a certain hybrid.

Skipping Steps (Trope x Trope) Katherine has been waiting forever for Klaus and Caroline to finally go from work married to actually dating, and she thought a week at a conference in Las Vegas would let them loosen up enough to make the move. Boy, was she right.

I haven’t figured out if this is a popular topic across the entire website or if I just happen to see it a lot in the space I occupy here, but I’ve been seeing a lot lately about the ageism in fandom and how it’s almost always linked with misogyny/expressed towards women. 

I love these posts, not because they’re stirring shit and fueling Tumblr Lolitics, but because almost every time I see a post on this topic I skim over the notes for a bit and there’s overwhelmingly positive anecdotes that everyone shares. And it’s fucking lovely! It warms my heart. 

That said, I wanted to just take a moment to share my own anecdote about it!

Like, I was heavily into fandom as a teenager, from around age 13 or so when I first discovered fanfiction on ff.net and then graduating to LiveJournal. When LJ started falling apart I kind of drifted away from it--I also happened to be starting college and I was taking photography really seriously so I wasn’t putting as much creative time into fanworks. I kept in touch with a lot of my friends from FF.net and LJ but we all wound up adding each other on Facebook and FB is like, for real life or something, so it just never felt the same.

BUT THE THING IS LIKE, THIS WEIRD PASSIONATE HYPERATTENTION I HAVE TO STUFF I LIKE NEVER REALLY WENT AWAY? I just did it privately. I’d binge watch the same movie over and over for weeks at a time, or finish a seven season show in like four days lol. Being in college made me feel really bad about any type of creativity that couldn’t be made into some type of profit--ie: if I was creating anything other than strictly original work I felt like I was wasting time and it was just as bad as vegging out doing NOTHING AT ALL--and I felt like I “grew out” of fanfiction. I still felt just as alive and inspired by all the media I consumed but I never had anyone to talk to about it, so it kinda just withered and died inside me and I’d move on to the next thing.

So last year, idk what happened, it was partly because I had a seriously bad bout of anxiety and I stopped leaving my bedroom and talking to my roommates for a couple months, but I started reading fanfiction again, and I decided to try writing some again, and I made a fandom Tumblr. 

And idk I just feel like the whole IF IT’S NOT PROFITABLE IT ISN’T TRULY PRODUCTIVE thing was such a waste of time, because I’ve learned that writing fanfiction is better than writing nothing, and spending time talking to other people who share my interests was immensely helpful in keeping my spirits up and raising me out of the hole I was in. It was easy to idealize the concept of “productivity=profitability” without taking the time to accept that, for me, personally, the issue wasn’t Fun vs. Profit but actually Make Fanworks vs. Make Nothing at All and Stare at the Wall in a Depressed Stupor for Most of the Afternoon.

I definitely prefer it this way and I’m so glad I found it again cause the past year of my life has been notably happier and more productive than I’ve been in a long time. And keeping the creative muscles exercised, even if it’s writing fanfiction or doing whatever, ultimately helps me when I create original content, too. It made me overall more creative and just, like. Happier.

SO!!!!!!!!! Anyway the point is, yeah! Your interests don’t go away and you don’t become a dried up old crone when you turn 25 lol. I tried to distance myself and “grow out of it” and that was the wrong decision to make, and I’m super glad I returned. Between dumb bratty kids who think fandom space is only for teenagers, and dried up un-creative IRL folk who try to make you feel stupid for your interests it was really easy to pull away and I know now that I shouldn’t have listened.

When I first got into photography like 12-13 years ago and I was using deviantART she was the first photographer I admired that actually gave me the time of day and left me feedback and answered my questions and it just meant the fucking WORLD TO ME and I love everything she does!

@yureiyume omg forces me to be productive like 5 days a week and it’s so integral to my work. Jeez!!! She always pokes at me to get writing done or to draw something and she’s always the happiest with whatever I make and it’s so encouraging!

listen I have no fucking idea, all of you are amazing and idk how to keep up with it. I don’t really know the RP side of fandom that well but like, idk @desanctii ?? THE AMOUNT OF CONTENT YOU CREATE IS UNREAL AND I AM IN AWE AND IT’S ALWAYS AMAZING. @echo-de-la-lumiere too, omg, I can’t believe how much you write. NAILING IT! @amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance blesses us constantly with that NSFW shit that is all too rare in this fandom and we need more lol. @moral-cipher is the bomb and IF WE’RE TALKING ABOUT BEING DEDICATED TO A MUSE, JEEZ, the love is REAL.  @sangcreole is such a dedicated RP’er and also just so excitable and always wants to talk about Louis, not just dedicated to the RP craft itself but to fandom in general and just always ready to chat about him!!! @faceofabotticelliangel makes such amazing moodboards/edits/whatever you wanna call it I DIE. 

But like please omg I don’t know you guys that well and all of you are incredible so you’re all doing great and you’re all SO DEDICATED! I feel so bad cause I can’t list everyone but these guys stick out to me a lot. RP CONFUSES ME I CAN’T KEEP UP! I love all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
