(SciFi/MassEffect!AU N7Commander!Rogers Cerberus!Bucky) Even after the Reaper war Cerberus remained. Steve was never entirely sure how, but they were a scourge on the galaxy and the Alliance all the same. They disrupted missions, hurt alien colonies and created and fuelled terrorism. Some things would never change. But the Hydra faction that had emerged from Cerberus were especially brutal. Steve had never come into contact with them…until that day. Steve wasn’t sure how long he’d been in the Cerberus research facility. Maybe weeks, maybe months…maybe years. But he was going insane, he couldn’t take it much longer. They tested on him, tried this serum…it gave him biotics. Powers beyond what Steve had ever possessed. They were unpredictable, vicious but they were one of a kind. They were other men in the room, other test subjects, but they came and left…most of them dying. Steve was the only one who survived. He recognised a few of the doctors, that was all…and a man with a metal arm, he usually wore a mask. Sometimes they brought him in and Steve would hear screaming…Steve would try to meet his gaze, but he could never read the man’s expression under that mask and through those coal-rimmed eyes. That day they took Steve out of his cell for tests, but the doctor hadn’t quite clipped the dampener cuffs on right. Steve still had his biotics…it was a rookie mistake and it would cost them lives. But it would give Steve a chance at his. He sent a biotic blast of warped power into the floor, sending the scientists flying and then he made a run for it, sprinting down the nearest corridor.

The prompt is very flexible! It’s just one example of how this AU could work. Elements I am set on is Steve’s serum giving him incredible biotics (akin to Jack’s) and the Reaper War almost mirroring the role of WWII in canon Marvel- but I still want Shepard to have existed in her own right
