Dad Vader - Use of the Force

It's been a while! I was unsure what to compare next but I had this idea after rereading some parts of the 2 fanfics again. Here, I will compare how the 2 Vaders use the force to interact with Luke. Both Vaders have an air of possessiveness when it comes to their force tendrils and the air becomes cold when they are both angry. Now to the interesting part!

Rod!Vader: This Vader does not use the force to hurt Luke often. The closest thing Vader has done would be holding Luke down with tendrils during spankings or restraining him. A lot of other times Vader uses the force in more tender ways such as interacting with Luke while he is away or as another form of embrace. The most dangerous displays of his force use were done in Luke's absence such as when he destroyed the royal suite.

LLOM!Vader: This Vader intimidates Luke more with the force. He has sweet moments but the bad moments seem more frequent. When Vader grips Luke, he does so harshly, causing him pain, or very tightly. Also, he has scared Luke such as when he caused the building to shake in his anger.

Note: Both Lukes are wary of making Vader angry, especially LLOM!Luke. However, it obvious that Rod!Luke is more comfortable around Rod!Vader. It could be that LLOM!Vader is just not fully aware of the pain he causes Luke and Rod!Vader has more restraint. Anyway, I have to side more with Rod!Vader here. Hopefully, I can find another area where LLOM!Vader is better soon.

Dad Vader - Punishment for Running Away

I forgot about this for a while but I am back. For this post, I want to compare how the punishments for Luke running away differed between the 2 Vaders.

Rod!Vader: At first, this Vader seems to have the more extreme punishment (over 100 spanks with a prosthetic hand ppl). But the punishment is centered on Luke putting himself in harm's way and disobeying his father. Vader makes it clear in a calm manner why he is disappointed and shows his love for Luke throughout the whole process. His gentle touches before the spanking and his pausing when Luke hurts himself indicate he still cares and is not doing this merely to hurt Luke. The collar was a bit extra IMO but even then he is reassuring the whole time and he does not just snap it on Luke. If you take out the collar and the KO spanking level, I could picture this scene with a regular dad and son.

LLOM!Vader: This Vader is almost the complete opposite. There were less hits and I guess a belt could be comparable to a prosthetic hand but the situation was more stressful for Luke. The moments before the spanking are tense and Vader begins the spanking with anger and intimidation. He hardly provides comfort or reassurance when Luke is panicking and screaming in pain. Plus the punishment seemed more self-centered. Vader's main focus is that Luke betrayed and hurt him. Unlike Rod!Vader who used the spanking as a learning moment for Luke putting himself in danger, LLOM!Vader is using the punishment almost like payback, a more emotional response. Vader is mainly thinking about himself during this. Also, how is cursing given the same weight as running away?? At least Rod!Vader's proportions made sense.

Note: I am glad my father did not believe in corporal punishment. Both Lukes had it bad, but it seemed more taxing on LLOM!Luke. Poor guy. Gosh, I have to find an aspect in which LLOM is better ASAP.

Dad Vader - Lies

Back again! This ties into the respect the Vaders show their Lukes.

Rod!Vader: Vader never lies to Luke. He is very transparent about his intentions. He may keep plan details hidden at times such as when he confronted the emperor without telling Luke, but he is always truthful with Luke.

LLOM!Vader: For all Vader accuses people for lying to Luke, he lies to his son a lot and keep many secrets from him. He lied about the medicine. He never told Luke that he killed the Naberries. His version of what happened to Padme sounds sketchy. But worst of all, he mindwiped his son and lied through his teeth about what happened to him. Ironically, he mindwiped Luke because he thought his son's head was full of lies.

Note: After reading LLOM, it was nice seeing Rod!Vader interact with his son. I feel guilty because I do love LLOM, but Rod!Vader is still the better parent. The relationship in LLOM is based heavily on deceit which is a bit of a bummer. Though some parents think white lies protect their kids - not that mindwiping is a measly white lie.

Dad Vader - Autonomy & Privacy

This is one of the major differences between the 2 Vaders. Both are possessive and controlling in their own ways, the 2 Lukes have different levels of agency.

Rod!Vader: Vader gives Luke moments to be alone and he respects Luke when he wants to be alone. He takes care of some things like Luke's wardrobe and hair cuts but Luke takes care of himself. Even moments where Vader takes care of Luke, it can be attributed to Vader being a doting father with no personal boundaries. Also, he does allow Luke to make some decisions for himself.

LLOM!Vader: This Vader on the other hand takes almost complete control of Luke's life immediately. He treats Luke like a baby who can't do anything for himself which is weird because Vader seems to oscillate between acknowledging Luke as a young man and as a young child. Luke has almost no personal time for himself and Vader barely allows minimal privacy and choice. Luke has to beg and bargain with Vader for him to teach him how to shield his mind, unlike Rod!Luke.

Note: I like both ways honestly. Rod!Vader is obviously slightly healthier and the moments between Rod!Luke and Rod!Vader feel sweeter since the relationship is less one-sided. But when I want the dopamine rush, the more babyish moments in LLOM are more addictive.

Dad Vader - First Meeting as Father/Son

First, let's start with the first meeting.

LLOM!Vader: After he recognizes his saber, he immediately recognizes Luke as his son. He's also more gentle with Luke. Of course he's bound but Vader causes no more harm to Luke.

Rod!Vader: Even after seeing his old saber, Vader is hesitant to believe Luke is his son. Probably because Luke tried to escape and Vader was not able to analyze him like LLOM!Vader. He violently beats Luke and only becomes tender once he gets an explicit confirmation from Luke.

Note: The first meeting is why I liked LLOM!Vader more initially. I also think Rod!Luke got over the beating too easily honestly. So my point goes to Sinful here. Although considering Vader sliced his son's hand off in the movies, Star's is probably more realistic. Let me know what you think about their first meeting!
