it's sundae funday! what's your favorite dessert and what's the most thoughtful thing that anyone has ever done for you? now send this message to the last 5 people in your notifications to share the sweetness 🍭
fave dessert: I have to confess, I don’t really know. I’m not a dessert person. I’d say…strawberry ice cream maybe?
most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me: sent me a powerful (and probably expensive) whistle to scare off attackers because I live in the bad part of town.
thx for the ask! <3

Writing a paper about Lovecraft?
I might actually be writing my master thesis about HPL. Still trying to work out the exact direction I’m taking tho. I’m both really happy and scared af. #justuniversitythings

Thanks for letting me know. :) - Finally started the first book and I like it so far. Some of the translation feels a little clunky but it’s not too distracting.
Sure, no prob. Would have been kinda mean to recommend a book series and then spoil stuff a few days later. ;)
Yeah, the translation is sometimes a little awkward, not sure why (I’m still glad I read the English translation and not the German one tho). Maybe they’re trying too hard to emulate Sapkowski’s style...
Anyway, have fun!

I have been looking for The Witcher books at my library but I may just have to suck it up and buy them. Are they good?
Personally, I love them. I love the whole Witcher universe, the world building and the lore, the characters and the humor. (I especially enjoy the slightly anachronistic (does that even work with fantasy?) discussions. Who’d have thought that Nilfgaard is pro-choice...)
As with most adaptations, the books are not the games. I don’t know whether you played the games... There’s a lot less monster hunting in the books and the story lines differ greatly. More war and political intrigue instead. But well, that kinda keeps it interesting, even for people like me who played the games (some plot twists will be spoiled tho, or you’ll just be confused as hell for a while like me. “Is that something they changed in the games or do I just know more than the characters???” XD).
The one thing to pay attention to when you’re reading them in English is the publication order. They fucked that up. They initially skipped the second book and released it this year after the fifth one. *sigh*
The actual chronological order:
The Last Wish
The Sword of Destiny
Blood of Elves
The Time of Contempt
Baptism of Fire
The Swallows Tower (Engl. release 2016)
Lady of the Lake (Engl. release 2017)
Don’t get me started on the fact that they still haven’t released all of the books. They’ve been around for more than 15 years and not even the recent games seem to speed that shit up. (In German all 7 books are available. I kinda regret not having started in German. But I really didn’t like the translation)
The first two books are actually short story collections and the real story doesn’t start until Blood of Elves. However, there are a lot of characters that are introduced in The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny so it’s best to start with them.
TL;DR: Yes, they are awesome and you should totally read them!
I’ll be over here in case you need to fangirl and/or yell at me for recommending them. :D
When you get this, reply with 5 things that make you happy and send this to the last 10 people in your activity :)
my friends, both those I can see every day and those halfway around the world
my family
books
watching mediocre horror movies late at night
finally playing that game you’ve been waiting for. preferably doing nothing else all weekend. only stopping to eat and sleep.

Haha - you write like I do. A mixture between cursive and not. It drove my students nuts.
Hehe, you’re right. First they taught us one way and then the other and by 4th grade my handwriting had evolved into this odd hybrid. My Ss are the worst. I write them differently depending on where in a word they appear and whether I’m paying attention or not. XD
