Do all the 2015 questions
Hi there! In my usual procrastinator fashion, I’m answering questions about 2015, in 2016! First things first, Happy New Year, @fantanoice, and all my Tumblr friends out here!
Now on to the questions. *deep breath*
1: What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?Loads of things!
I travelled with just my partner @skoolhatesme to Japan
I taught my very first class of K1s at my weekend teaching job (5-year-olds, they’re such darlings, I’ll miss them terribly)
I went to a gym (ha, ha, ha)
I did an internship at a theatre company
I started work at my first full-time job
I did front-of-house managing, publicity, marketing, edited videos for clients
I had my first advert poster go public (well, just a poster outside each of my client’s two fast-food outlets, but it’s still public! And in A2 size! In colour! I’m thrilled!)
I sought treatment for something I’ve had for nearly half my life (read question 10 for more details on that)
I willingly had my hair cut into a short bob, and dyed. (I’ve had bob haircuts when I was little, but mostly because I went to a school that disallowed long hair for girls. Ridiculous.)
So I guess you can see that 2015 was a huge year of many changes for me!
(Read on for the rest of the questions, 36 in total.)
2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?I think for the past 2-3 years, my New Year’s resolution is just ‘be happy’, and for once I think I got close to fulfilling it. So yep, for 2016, the mission continues - to be happy.
3: Did anyone close to you give birth? Not really close, per se, but my sis-in-law’s sister had a baby, and my partner’s classmate too.
4: Did anyone close to you die?No. Thankfully.
5: What countries did you visit?Japan, and for a week in 2015, since my partner and I spent New Year’s there. We visited Capcom Bar, Pokémon Centre in Ikebukuro, Mt. Fuji, Tokyo Skytree, and Ghibli Museum, and we met up with his friends in Akita.
6: What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?More discipline in my life, and that damn Balm Jovi Face Palette I’ve been eyeing since 2014. Seriously, that palette didn’t go down in price for the whole year what the fuck.
7: What dates from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?I’m really bad with dates to be honest! Nothing seems to stand out to me for now. I might revisit this question later.
8: What was your biggest achievement of the year? It’s a bit personal, but I guess my biggest achievement is learning to love myself and affirm my abilities at work. I always thought of myself as weak and incapable as a worker, but seeing my work being accepted by my superiors, my peers, and my clients helped me realise that, hey, maybe I’m doing alright.
Well, as alright as I can be, as defined in a capitalist system -_-
9: What was your biggest failure?I was creating a Facebook page likes ad campaign for a client, and instead of dumping $100 total for the entire duration of two weeks, I ended up dumping $100 per day. Wound up overspending by $200 before I quickly halted the ad, but that shit triggered one of the worst panic attacks I’ve had in a while.
10: Did you suffer illness or injury?I’ve had anxiety and depression for about 10 years or so, and it worsened in the past couple of years due to school stress, hypercritical family members, and having to deal with becoming an adult. This year, I finally saved up enough money to seek treatment, and thankfully the psychiatrist was a nice one that made me feel understood and safe. For me, this is really the biggest, and most positive change in 2015. I’m glad I did this.
That aside, other assorted minor ailments I had:
two bouts of stomach flu
eczema
chronic sinusitis
the one month I had godawful menstrual cramps preventing me from functioning
occasionally losing my voice from my teaching job
11: What was the best thing you bought?Tomodachi Life!
12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?Uh, not quite sure how to answer this? I think if you’ve done nice things to yourself, that merits celebrating!
13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?I thought nothing would appall me anymore, until I got to know this guy who is my partner’s classmate. He whined on Facebook about how difficult it was to not body-shame. I smacked him down, and he deleted the entire post in an epic attempt at self-preservation. What a champ. This guy also went to a Halloween party dressed in a straitjacket, and constantly delegitimises my partner’s struggles with body image problems, so honestly, this guy can go fuck himself.
14: Where did most of your money go?Medical stuff, food, transport.
15: What did you get really, really, really excited about? My brother’s company moving into the current office. It’s incredibly cool to have your own office space to work in. Also, I get excited whenever I receive my pay.
16: What song will always remind you of 2015?記得 by A-Mei 張惠妹, because it became a running joke between me and the two friends I did my internship with.
17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? Just as happy, since I was on vacation at that time.(b) thinner or fatter? Geez, this question is kinda invasive, isn’t it? I probably have gotten fatter, but it doesn’t quite bother me unless I’m having a very bad depressive episode.© richer or poorer? Richer, in terms of money and life.
18: What do you wish you’d done more of?Exploring the different hobbies, sports, and activities I could’ve done. I failed miserably at picking up crocheting in 2014, and I half-ass my exercise routine.
19: What do you wish you’d done less of?Worrying about what people think of me, fussing too much over the quality of my work, hating myself and my body.
20: How did you spend Christmas?Taking a break from work, dinner with my family, and receiving my lovely present from my partner - Nintendogs+Cats!
21: Did you fall in love in 2015?Every time I receive a text from my partner, or see him, I fall in love again. I also fell in love with Thai basil chicken and beef pho.
22: What was your favourite TV program? Not really TV programs since I catch them online - The Return of Superman and One Punch Man.
23: Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Not quite. The last time I let go of a friend was in 2013-ish.
24: What was the best book you read?Me, read a book? You’ve got to be kidding. Hate to break it to ya, but I don’t have patience for reading. The last time I completed a wordy book, cover-to-cover, was Deathly Hallows.
25: What was your greatest musical discovery?Corrinne Bailey Rae, and Mandopop from the late 80s to early 2000s.
26: What did you want and get?I wanted a sense of purpose, and I got it.
27: What did you want and not get?theBalm’s Rock Star Balm Jovi palette, a new bag, and oxford shoes that don’t give me blisters.
28: What was your favourite film of this year?Inside Out. I laughed, and I cried, and I laughed, and I cried.
29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?Work. I went through a temporary job, an internship, a part-time job, and now, I have a full-time job, on top of a part-time job. I like working more than studying.
30: How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?Anything that is on discount. Actually, that’s always been my fashion concept.
31: What kept you sane? There’s something iffy about this question. So, until I figure out why it’s iffy, I choose not to answer it.
32: Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?Oon Shu An, oh my. She’s just awesome on screen and awesome in person. When she visited our office, it was like a golden aura of happiness and positivity just entered the room along with her. She acknowledged my presence. I BSoD-ed.
33: What political issue stirred you the most?So many things make me angry to be honest, it would be a 10 page essay.
34: Who did you miss?I missed my friends from primary and secondary school (the non-shitty ones), and the very first class of students I was teaching assistant for. They’re turning 6 this year and I feel so old.
35: Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.It’s worth it, and I’m worth it.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.我要的幸福 by Stefanie Sun 孫燕姿. In particular, this line:
用我的雙眼,在夢想裡找路該問路的時候,我不會裝酷
In part, because I discovered that I had the voice within me to seek help, and I don’t have to do everything alone.
And that’s a wrap! Whew. If you’ve read this far, thank you! And I hope your 2016 will be an awesome year.
