La Planete Sauvage
Les Temps Morts (1964) (short, B/W)
A nihilistic yet beautiful short by Renè Laloux (Fantastic Planet/Le Planete Sauvage, Gandahar, Time Masters) about the inherent violent attitude of humans, an inescapable truth of us exercising and training in murder as a species despite age and sex, where we scramble to find things to do in the titular “dead times” between the last and next conflict.
A great short, included (among pretty much every other short made by Laloux) in the “Masters Of Cinema” DVD + Blu-Ray UK release of Le Planete Sauvage (also know as Fantastic Planet).

This animated tale follows the relationship between the small human-like Oms and their much larger blue-skinned oppressors, the Draags, who rule the planet of Ygam. While the Draags have long kept Oms as illiterate pets, this hierarchy shifts after an Om boy becomes educated, thanks to a young female Draag. This leads to an Om rebellion, which weakens the Draag control over their race. Will the Oms and the Draags find a way to coexist? Or will they destroy each other? Director: René Laloux Writers: Stefan Wul, Roland Topor Stars: Barry Bostwick, Jennifer Drake, Eric Baugin
