when scripting a fantasy reality
i am sure i’m forgetting some concepts, so please reblog / comment with what you always script to help our fellow fantasy shifters!
⊹ minorities are majorly excluded in most of the popular fantasy medias. in my asoiaf realities i always make it a point to script that the whole realm isn’t just white people. it is unrealistic ( ironic, ik bc it’s fantasy but still ) for people to come about over evolution && only be white.
⊹ racism. nonexistent. idc. you might be frowned at for being half giant somewhere, but nowhere will you be discriminated against for the color of your skin.
⊹ escaping the long lines of incest! i always always script a completely new house ( family lineage ) separate from the families i plan to be romantically involved with. ie. my maegors reign reality i have no blood connection to the targaryens or jason’s house && my kings in the north reality takes place long before the targaryens ( a valyrian house ) reaches westeros; i am a stark while jason is from valyria, therefore we have absolutely no familial connection. it ain’t that hard, chat.
⊹ love is love, no matter gender. i really don’t enjoy the homophobia tropes often littered in the fantasy genre. i understand it is based on the medieval era but i still don’t care for it. so i script that the gender of those who love each other isn’t scandalous. but for drama && angst purposes i script that status is what the older generations look to for a ‘ good ‘ marriage. ie. a knight shouldn’t marry a princess.
⊹ blood right to the crown. when debating the rightful heir to the throne it is always the child the previous monarch / matriarch believes would run the kingdom the best. if they are not able to decide, the crown will fall to the firstborn. this rule keeps women from being skipped in the line of succession.
⊹ misogyny. men are not set above women in any shape or form. there is no underlying disdain towards them or anyone who is not a man.
