You closed your eyes as the wind blew passed you. You put your arms up with a giggle rising up your throat. “This is great!” You yelled out. You heard a laugh next to you. You opened your eyes and turned to look at Farkle. He was driving on the mountainside road. The two of you had rented a jeep without a top to feel the nice breeze as you drove.
You saw Farkle look at you with a smile and turn back to the road. You looked out the car to gaze at the endless blue crashing on the rocks below you. After a few days of sightseeing, this day was for some fun at the beach. The water was a clear blue transitioning to a darker blue the deeper in.
You adjusted your hat and played with the hem of the long thin sweater you were wearing to cover your swimsuit. “Hey, Farkle,” you sang, “Are we almost there?”
“Almost. The parking is right around the corner.” And it was. There was 3 cars parked, so there was plenty of space to park. Once the car was parked, you practically jumped out. Farkle got your supplies from the back of the car and you took both of your backpacks.
You met with Farkle in the front of the car. “Ready?” Farkle asked. You chuckled.
“Of course.”
He grabbed your hand and gently pulled you along with him. You let out a laugh as he made his way over to the sand. He let go of your hand as soon as he found a good spot. You laid out a towel as Farkle set up an umbrella. The cooler of water and snacks was set between the two towels you had put down and under the umbrella.
“Come on!” You tilted your head to the water. You take off the sweater to reveal your swimsuit. You walked closer to Farkle to grab his hand. You look up at him, “The ocean calls.”
He squeezes your hand as he places a quick kiss on your cheek. “Then we answer.” The both of you walk to the edge of the water. You wiggle your toes in the sand as the water rises to your ankles. “Do you think the tide will get closer to us. We’re close to the water.” Farkle questions.
“We’ll have to find out right.” You walk closer and look down at your feet. The water was to your shins. “I think we should make something…” you trail off in thought of what to do.
“Sandcastle!” You say. You go back to the sand and sit on the ground. Farkle takes a seat next to you. “We should make a moat, then the castle in the middle of course.” You begin to dig a big circle. Farkle starts with the castle.
The making of the castle was a bit challenging but it was fun and so was the conversation with Farkle. He was naming facts of kings and queens. You listened with interest and with a smile as Farkle kept talking about history with a twinkle in his eyes.
The sun was setting making the sky light up with the familiar oranges and pinks. The waves themselves reflected the changes. You were on the beach towel that you and Farkle had set up but only one was being used. Farkle kept on saying how he was so far away even though you could touch his hand without even stretching your hand all the way out.
He joined you on your towel without too much protest from you. You had your head on his chest and he had his chin on your head. “You know (Y/N), you’ve been the best thing to happen to me this vacation.” Farkle’s heartbeat quickened as he said that. You could hear it, but he couldn’t hear how your heartbeat did too. You pull away to look up at those dark blue eyes you’ve grown to become a fond of. The depth captured in them, it set your brain to mush.
“You are too. The best part of this vacation,” You agreed. You bit your lip and broke your gaze from Farkle. “But I keep thinking of after.” He took you chin with his fingers, it was like a feather, soft and light, and lifted it so you could meet his eyes.
“I don’t want for you to just be a part of this vacation (Y/N),” He moved his thumb in a circular motion, Up your jaw then back down to the start of your jaw then again. The touch sent some sort of tingling feeling where ever he touched you. “I want you to be the best part of my life.”
“What do you mean?” You blushed at his comment. You could see his blush as he looked away for a moment then back at you.
“I mean, I want you to be with me in New York. I want you to go on dates with me and meet my friends. I want to be there for you and help you through your hard times,” he pauses to take in a shaky breath. “Will you be with me in New York and be my girlfriend?”
You pull Farkle by his shoulders into a hug. “I would love to.” He hugs you around your waist and sent those tingles around your waist. You pull back and lean in. You feel Farkle’s lips brush against yours. Once your lips meet it becomes pure bliss. He pulls you closer to him to deepen the kiss. You run your hands through his hair. He pulls away and kisses your nose.
You pull him in for another kiss. This one was just as tingly as the last. It made you melt into the kiss. You felt something touch the tip of your foot, then to your ankle. It was cold and wet. You pull away from the kiss and look down at your foot. The tide was high and coming up fast.
“Uh oh.” Farkle said as he stood up to take the towels off the ground he put them on top of the cooler. You scrambled to your feet before the water got you anymore wet. Farkle had gotten everything off the sand and turned to look at you. The both of you burst of laughing.
“We got a little caught up didn’t we.” You said in between laughter. Farkle just nodded because he was laughing. The two of you calmed down just as the waves moved back into a good distance away from your spot.
“You have a cute laugh.” Farkle commented.
“Shut up.” You said as you blushed. You picked up the backpacks. Farkle picked up the cooler and the umbrella. “I think it’s a good time to leave.”
The jeep the both of you came in was the only car in the parking lot. You put everything in the back and hopped in. Farkle took the driver’s seat.
With a smile, Farkle took your hand and drove from the beach. Today was the last day of vacation but not the last day of you and Farkle.
Prompt: Sitting together on a long flight with a nervous flyer.
Warnings: Panic attacks.
Author’s note: I just got this random idea and was in a writing mood so I wrote it. This is also when Farkle is older so maybe like out of high school. This is a long one, be warned!
Part two [here]

You had just bought a few snacks from the small shop on the strip of stores at JFK airport in New York City. There was no way you were buying some actual food from a restaurant here, way too expensive. The store was a small one, smaller than the rest of the stores at the airport. It had snacks, souvenirs, magazines, and books. You were out of the store but stopped just before the exit. This is a long ride. I might as well get some things to read, you thought.
Quickly, you bought a magazine and a 400 page book. Just enough to keep me busy the trip. Good thing there’s wifi, now I have more things to do if I finish.
That was when you heard the soft, melodious voice of the woman announcing your flight was boarding. The walk to the entrance to the plane was a fast one but it was also hectic. There was people rushing to the entrance and you still had to pull out your boarding pass that was in your backpack, but you were fine once you got to the man in the front going over your boarding pass.
“It's all looking good. I just need to see your passport, please.” He requested. You blushed in embarrassment. Forgot it, of course. You pulled it out of your backpack and handed to him. “Thank you. Go on ahead.”
You could feel the familiar feeling of butterflies in your chest. That sweat forming on your palms that you had to wipe on your pants were sure signs you were nervous for the flight, but that always happens. You shook it off and told yourself you were just being silly.
Seat 10b was where you were to sit. You moved your way into the plane slowly. The line of people slowly separating to sit in their own seats. Seat 10b was right in sight. It was a window seat. There was only one seat left next to you and you hoped it would be someone nice.
You shuffled through your backpack, pulling out your earphones and phone. You pulled out the table in front of you to set down your things and looked out the window. Soon all you would see would be the clouds, the stars, and the moon. You always preferred night flights, it was always so peaceful.
You heard the compartment on top of your row move open and the slight creak of the seat as someone sat down. You moved your head to face the person to your right. The man next to you had a short cut and a wonderfully sharp jawline. What topped it off was his dark blue eyes. Your eyes met and you quickly looked away, looking through your bag again. The more you thought about it, the more you blushed.
You sat up, deciding not to take anything out. Should I say something, you thought of the possibilities, it would be rude not to. Soon the flight attendants came out and showed the procedures of the plane.
Not long after the pilot was heard overhead, “The flight will take of in 5 minutes.” The belt signal lit up, so you buckled up.
You were starting to freak out a bit. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. You recited that for a minute. “Excuse me,” you moved your head up to meet those dark blue eyes again. “Are you alright? You seem a little nervous.” You shook your head.
“I’m better now. I'm sorry this always happens.” You chucked.
“No need to apologize. I get nervous too. Is there anything I can do to help?” You thought about that.
“I think I'm better now, thank you…” he seemed to see what you were doing.
“Farkle,” he played with the hem of his shirt. “My names Farkle Minkus.” A light pink blush tinted his cheeks as he looked down. You smiled up at him.
“I like it. My name’s (Y/N) (L/N).” You replied. He looked back up and let out a laugh. You wished you could hear that laugh again and again.
“I like your name too,” He made a serious face as he said your name slowly. “(Y/N)...” He returned to his shy smile. Your eyes widened a bit and you had a small smile. The way he said you name. It was just like his laugh, it wasn't something you could only hear once.
“We will begin takeoff,” the pilot spoke. You took a quick breath. Farkle kept his eyes on you.
“Here, breath with me. Slowly. Make it a deep breath.” We did that for a few moments. “See! Are you better now?” Farkle gave me a closed eyed smile and moved his hand close to mine.
The plane started to move slowly. It turned into the strip we would take of from. Then it started to move again. Then it moved faster. And faster.
Farkle must have sensed my nervousness. He was just about to say something when I grabbed his hand. He fixed his position to make it more comfortable by intertwining our hands together.
The wind was howling around the plane. This was the worst part of the plane ride. Farkle gave a squeeze and you sent one back. The plane rose up to the sky. You looked out of the window to see the ground fall away and the sky getting closer to you. As the plane leveled out you could see the whole city. New York City at its best, from the sky. The lights twinkled while you stared in fascination at the city below you.
You turned back to Farkle who was looking at you already. Both of you exchanged a chuckle and looked at your hands. You pulled away, flustered by your actions. Farkle looked no different but was more red than you. “I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, Farkle.” You began.
“You didn't. Not at all,” Farkle immediately said. He glanced at the ground but looked back at you. “It was fine. I'm here.” He finished.
You smiled at him and pulled out a book from your bag.
20 hours left until arrival
You read your book in silence while Farkle did the same. It wasn't weird or awkward like other times you had been on a plane. The plane was under a spell it seemed. The babies were asleep or miraculously quiet, most passengers were asleep too or watching the in flight movie. It seemed to just be Farkle and you, reading, just being with each other.
You were completely into the book, feeling every feeling the main character felt, quietly giggling at a few of the funny moments, and cursing out the most frustrating character in the book in your head.
You reached a point when you thought you could give your eyes a break from reading under dim light. You snuck a peek at Farkle. He was quietly snoring with his book in his lap. You let out a breathy laugh and moved the book from his lap, bookmarked the page, and set it aside. You looked back up at him again.
You thought he looked adorable with his lips slightly apart, which let out his small snores. His hair was slightly messy. You hadn't realized you were staring that long until you heard, “Why are you smiling? Is there something on my face?” You blushed from embarrassment, probably. Farkle rubbed his mouth. “Did I have drool?” He poked my cheek playfully.
“No,” you stuttered out. “I can't look at you or something?” He laughed loudly. You shushed him. “You're going to wake people up!” You scolded. He grinned. You noticed a small dimple on his cheek.
“Still staring?” He joked. You crossed your arms and turned away.
“That's enough,” you huffed. “Jerk.”
18 hours left
The flight attendant came to bring Farkle and you food. It was a ham sandwich with a bag of chips and some classic peanuts.
“Anything you would like to drink?” The flight attendant asked.
“I'll have a coffee.” Farkle asked. The flight attendant started to pour the coffee.
“What about you, hun?”
“I'll have (Y/F/D), please.” The flight attendant handed Farkle his coffee and your drink to you.
“If you need anything, press that button up there.” They pointed to the button with a little stick figure over you. You nodded in thanks.
Farkle unwrapped his sandwich while you went for the bag of chips. You two ate in silence until you felt a hand on your shoulder. You let out a sigh.
“Yes, Farkle?”
“How are you doing?”
“Better now. It's been fun with you.”
Farkle put a hand to his chest. “I'm touched.” You let out a laugh.
“Better be. I don't like most people but you're okay.” You said just to mess around.
Farkle’s jaw dropped. “I'm okay! Just okay!” You laughed again.
“I'm just joking.” You smiled and Farkle returned it.
“Then what am I?” He questioned.
“Amazing.”

The more you talked to Farkle, the more interesting he got. He told you he was in college, majoring in chemistry. He had a wonderful group of close friends at home. He was traveling to relax for vacation since college was stressing him out and he had always wanted to explore. You understood since you wanted to expand your view of the world and not just stay in your small thought of what the world was.
“So were you always interested in science?” You wondered. He nodded.
“In middle school, I was the smartest kid in the school. In high school, I wasn't. So I became the smartest kid. I liked all my classes but I loved science.” He looked up at the ceiling and sighed.
“Do you miss it?”
“Of course. It's so weird knowing I'm an adult now. I don't feel like one though.” He leaned into the seat.
“I completely understand. I feel the same way.” You crossed your legs and grabbed your sweater to use it as a blanket. You meet Farkle’s eyes, when he smiles they crinkle at the edges.
“You should sleep. You haven’t slept all flight.” Farkle’s tone changed from a sad one to a concerned one. You nodded and moved into a different position to try and get comfortable.
Each position grew less comfortable. You muttered curses at the plane seat as if it could change. You heard Farkle chuckle. You turned to face him.
“Just come here.” He said. You hesitated, but moved in closer. He reached out to pull you to his chest. Your right cheek leaned on his chest which you didn't mind but you could be more comfortable. You moved to his shoulder to rest your head.
“Sleep tight, (Y/N).” Farkle whispered. You felt yourself nod and then drift off to sleep.
10 hours left
You were the first to wake. The sun was starting to come up the sky. You were going to sit up but you felt an arm wrapped around you. Then you noticed a head resting on yours. Farkle. You didn't want to move. Partly because you didn't want to wake Farkle up and partly because you were warm and cozy with your sweater on you like a blanket and Farkle’s warmth. So, you nuzzled closer to a Farkle, savoring the moment.
“Attention, we will be experiencing some turbulence.” The pilot spoke. Farkle’s head moved up and he opened his eyes groggily. Moment gone, you frowned.
“What did the pilot say?” His voice had a slight raspiness to it. You blushed pink at the sound of his morning voice.
“We might be hitting some turbulence” you answered. You stayed in that position for a while. “I need to stretch.” He removed his hand from your waist.
“Me too,” He said, “I really want to but you looked so comfy.” You grinned at him. “You look less sleepy now.”
“I am less sleepy, I was so tired last night but I was having fun talking to you.” Farkle gave you a lopsided grin.
The plane started to shake a bit as we headed into a cloud. You hated turbulence but not as much as Farkle. He looked so startled. His wide eyes and his grip on the seat. You grabbed his left hand and intertwined your fingers with his. He looked down at you and immediately became calmer. His eyes softened and the grip he had on the chair became less tight.
“Turbulence are just chaotic changes in pressure and flow velocity. Just excessive kinetic energy in fluid flow.” Farkle murmured but you heard it. You thought it was adorable but now was not the time.
“Farkle, it's okay” you gazed up at him. You leaned up and planted a kiss on his cheek for comfort. He grinned like a fool. The turbulence stopped and he took a deep breath.
“Thank you, (Y/N).” He smiled and moved down, giving you a kiss on your forehead.
5 hours left
“Snacks!!” You gleefully said to Farkle. It was morning now the sun was moving up the sky, making the sky pink. You remembered the snacks you bought at the airport. “Here is some chips and some candy bars” you handed some to Farkle. He took them gratefully.
“Seems like a good treat I'm hungry.” He started to chew one. You unwrapped yours and ate one with him.
“Farkle, I don't want to bring the mood down but what happens when we get to the airport?” You asked. He looked at you with confusion.
“We're going to talk. We're going to hang, right?” He said with worry evident.
“Of course but will we? I love talking to you and being with you but if we do hang out when we get there, what about when we go home?”
“We can think about that later, (Y/N).” He looked at the floor. You grabbed your phone and earphones. You slipped them on and played your music.
You leaned into Farkle. He opened his arms and wrapped them around you, putting his chin on your head. He watched as you played a game.
“Here,” you offered a headphone. “Listen with me.” He took it and you leaned on his shoulder.
5 minutes left
The pilot announced we would land shortly. You still leaned into Farkle. He read his book and you read yours. The plane was slowly moving down.
“Farkle, can you hold my hand?” You moved to look him in his dark blue eyes.
“You don't need to ask,” he took your hand in his and rubbed small circles in your hand. “What's wrong?”
“We’re almost going to land and I just want to hold you hand.” You said staring out the window. Farkle gently grabs your chin moving it to look at him. His eyes flicker from your eyes to your lips. Your eyes do the same. He takes his other hand and cups both his hands around your cheeks.
He leans in slowly, closing his eyes. You do the same until you feel the plane start to move down. You both jump at the change in movement. Was I really into that so much?
“It's okay, I'm here with you.” He whispers.
Landed
You walked hand in hand with Farkle down to the front entrance of the airport. Farkle suggested you stay with him during the trip so that you could sightsee together. You, of course, had to say yes but you two had different hotel reservations, so you would meet up.
You wait for the taxis together, sharing a bag of chips. “I think my number would be helpful.” You joke. You exchange numbers and set up a time to meet tomorrow.
You see you taxi pull up and you grab your things. “I'll see you later, Farkle.” You wave goodbye. Even though you'll see him again you can help but feel sad when you leave him.
Just when you were going to get in the taxi you hear, “Wait, (Y/N)!”.
You turn to see Farkle running to you. “What’s wro-”
Farkle takes your cheeks in his hands and presses his lips to yours. You feel that feeling that you felt when you were going to board the plane. The butterflies in your chest and the feeling the heat rise to your cheeks.
Farkle pulls away and puts his forehead on yours. “I had to finish what we started.”
