If you are confused about farm laws, just know this.
Farmer protests did not start with their entering into Delhi. That's when we started to notice them because that's when it became impossible for godi media to suppress these protests which had begun in Punjab, Haryana and elsewhere immediately after farm laws were bulldozed through parliament by Modi govt on September of this year. In fact, parliament itself saw in-house protests by opposition MPs accusing deputy chairman of helping the govt rush through the bills in Rajya Sabha without following any democratic process. They were accusing deputy chairman of partiality because he refused to entertain their requests to refer the bills for select committee (usually new laws pass through these committees so as to understand and straighten out any flaws they might have) or even to extend the discussion until next week in Parliament. Rajya Sabha tv even muted the audio and cut the video while opposition leaders were protesting and shouting against farm bills. Opposition asked for physical voting on bills but chair went ahead with voice votes (video should still be available on youtube - go watch it and try to hear the difference between yes and no'es, and how chair heard the non-existent yes on all bills). Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP's oldest ally had asked govt not to bring the bills in Parliament unless all reservations raised by farmers were resolved - this was rejected. It then asked the bills be sent to select committee - this request too was rejected. On this, Akalis left from the NDA and govt. And it was after all this drama in Parliament and around it that farmers started rail-roko, rallies and eventually when they weren't heard or covered by godi media, they entered Delhi.
Oh yeah, BJP governments dug the roads, highways (which of course would now be reconstructed by tax-money and you won't outrage on this wastage of funds), used teargas and water cannons to stop farmers from entering Delhi...
Simply, without going into any details of the bills, if the bills were just and were brought in good faith to really benefit farmers then there was absolutely no need to bulldoze them through parliament like this. What would have really happened if discussion on these bills was held for another week or if they were sent to select committee? And why is winter session of parliament been cancelled now? There's no corona for election rallies and Ram-temple and multi-crore central vista shilanyas events, but corona surfaces when parliament session is to be held?!
