When his father told him they were getting visitors from Johto and there was a girl his age, Spencer was at first determined to never leave his room while they were present in case she turned out to be just as crazy as Rick, but after much coaxing and the promise of spice cake, he crept out of safety like a frightened animal to meet Chloe.
Within an hour, the two said a rushed goodbye to their parents and hollered that they'd be back before sundown (if they could but no promises, they added just out of earshot), and Spencer set about showing Chloe all the best hiding spots and climbing trees around the farm, while she spotted a few new ones for him, so by the time they'd played their sixth round of hide and seek, evening was starting to stain the sky purple and Spencer was eagerly looking forward to confounding Rick with the things Chloe had taught him.
As Chloe's mom got packed to leave two days later, she begged and begged for an extra day or week or maybe an extra month because she hadn't learned all the Tauros' names yet, and how was she supposed to enjoy all Spencer's letters back to her if she didn't even know which Tauros he was referring to, but her mother deferred the question to Spencer's father, who told her very seriously that little girls who stayed more than a few days at this farm started to turn into Miltank, so it was really for her own good that she left now, and Spencer promised to attach pictures of the Tauros if they came up in his letters.
