Rose
I looked out the window at the pasture this morning, to see Rose experiencing An Emotion. Whatever it was, she was experiencing it very hard, including jumping up in the air and kicking, bursting into a gallop, sideswiping poor patient Hero, and REaring. Nutmeg was standing at a careful distance watching this with Judgmental Goat eyes. I went out and gave them their hay, but did not give them grain. They were expecting grain. Rose gave me a very determined nudge to remind me about GRAIN.
The farrier was due to trim their hooves this morning, though, and I thought it would be better to eat after that - or maybe load up her nosebag to keep her occupied while the hoof trim was happening. Hero is a hoof-trim superstar, and stands patiently every time. Rose has in the past been known to pitch such a tantrum that she knocked herself over on the ground. This was to be her first visit with our farrier, though, since she only came to stay here about 6 weeks ago.
Well, although Rose is a bit spoiled and strong-headed, the farrier is perhaps a bit spoiled as well - because he’s used to Hero’s calmness. They collided a bit, and there was a certain amount of temper all around. However, the hooves did in fact get trimmed, no one was hurt, and she stood better once she got over herself a bit. Honestly, it went better than I feared. When she sees him again at the end of February perhaps she’ll remember that it’s no big deal.
