Which Pattern?
Well, watching the videos the scarf actually produced by the laceweight yarn looks very short, so sock yarn should work just fine. Now I just need to see if I'm going to commit to the Palette or try for a different yarn with a good multitude of blues and grays. Malabrigo seems a bit too busy, but a good semi-solid might be great.
Now for the pattern, do I stick with the basic garter stitch, or try something else? I do like the feather and fan examples I've seen, but I've never actually knit that pattern. Grater stitch is great, and there's absolutely no chance of forgetting the pattern. But perhaps an old favorite, the farrow rib would do. I can practically knit that one in my sleep, and I think it will have the advantage of the edge being set back slightly. With a heavily variegated yarn it can look busy, but it might add visual interest to the scarf.
