Day 83
RACE - DAY 4
My day started with my night watch at midnight. Speed was still about 10 knots. Royals and spanker was taken earlier. At 04 a. m. once Jon the Mate appear for his watch we started handing t’gallants. There was no problem with forward one, but main furling gear was trapped and we couldn’t hand that sail. Bloody furling gear. So about 5 o’clock, when the very first lights of new day started to shine through the thick blanket of clouds, BMs Alice and Tom Jon and myself climbed the main mast. After bit of a fight with sail filled with wind we managed to tie the gaskets around the yard trapping canvas effectively. This night climb reminded me why I started on sailing ships long time ago and how that all changed since, how much I am constrained by paperwork, regulations, tight schedule and other obsessions.
I woke up at midday and I felt I would struggle to get out of bed. Steve medical purser came to see me. High fever and headache was bother me. So I stayed in bed. Therefore there is no picture today.
