i believe one of the biggest controversies and plot holes of the pjo fandom and storyline is percy’s fatal flaw. but i think some people fail to realize it that percy’s fatal flaw isn’t just loyalty but excessive personal loyalty. meaning he would do anything for friends or a loved one even a stranger or enemy he empathizes with. take his very first quest for example, a war between zeus, poseidon, and hades was brewing and it could have disastrous consequences that would be fatal to everyone so percy is sent on a quest to retrieve the lighting bolt zeus and hades think he stole and yet percy didn’t care at all he just wanted his mom. another example could when he warned the enemy demi-gods about the bomb on the princess andromeda. or when he followed Zoe and them on the quest to save annabeth even tho he wasn’t supposed to. like when percy takes the sky from artemis (though i dont really think that counts as personal loyalty). actually a great example could be when they fell into tartar sauce. percy was willingly taking on the curses and sacrificing himself to help annabeth.
but there are many times that could counter this and say shouldnt his fatal flaw be something else? we arent really given chance to explore it. but in my opinion i believe we arent given chances to explore his fatal flaw cause he’s not that loyal to anyone but camp, his mother, grover, and annabeth.
as you can see i didnt really include the seven cause i personally feel like percy didn’t have a deep enough connection with them. first, he and jason clashed all the time or not all the time but they didn’t really get along. second, he and leo though would be amazing friends got off on a bad start when that ghost thing made leo fire onto the roman camp. third, piper was honestly paid too much attention to jason to really get to know him. i wont include or disclude hazel and frank because i believe he did have some sort of connection with the two since they did go on a quest with each other but i think their views on him are different/ i think hazel mostly admires percy while frank both admires and fear him. you dont have to agree but its really just my opinion on his interactions with them all.
