I did it. I finally did it. Diarmuid is maxed outside of his bond level. I have been working on making him my strongest and (first) heroic spirit to be completely maxed out. It's been way too many years but totally worth it
Fate AU: Diartoria Legend Rewrite
Context: So I've gotten back in Fate and this includes reviving my passion for Diarturia and revamping my old child!OC as well as their impact in the overall mythos. Considering the already canon insane angst in this ship, I've made their original myth even more tragic.

Appearence: Based on this fanart, Fiachra has a notable androgenous beauty capable of charming men and women alike. It's difficult to tell that she's a women from appearence or body shape alone, something she'll use to her advantage when necessary.

Personality: Much like her parents, Fiachra has a strict morals and a strong sense of honor. However, she is also more practical in her execution. Her guiding principle is simple: if my enemies have no rules, then neither do I. She will stoop to exploiting a loophole or sneakier tactics if it serves a greater good. Still, while she may not stick to the chivalric code to the letter, she still greatly values integrity and won't break her own internal code.
Fiachra tends to be warm and generally upbeat. She tends to keep her distance from others, but is still respectful and friendly overall. She's very casually altruistic, often helping others without rhyme or reason and extremely reliable. With her loved ones, Fiachra tends to be very loving and openly affectionate with them. Her friends and family are the only people she would ever discard her honor for as, in her eyes, honor can always be regained later whereas family is everything. Suprisingly, Fiachra feels things very deeply. But her natural level-headedness and easygoing nature often keep others from realizing this. Another detail that masks this is her solution oriented porblem solving: she's not the type to freak out over a problem, only focus on the solution. If there is no solution, then Fiachra readily accepts and adapts. Outside of that, she tends to be pretty sincere and open with her emotions, never bottling or suppressing them. When she can't physically or verbally express herself due to her circumstances, she turns to writing and music to let it out. She's also very selective about her long term loyalty. In her eyes, respect is a two-way street so she doesn’t respond well to arrogance or authority wielded without merit. But once her loyalty is earned, it is steadfast. She won’t waver unless severely betrayed and when that happens she will neither forgive nor forget until the rest of her days.
Fiachra has a sharp, analytical mind specialized long-term strategy, logistics, and investigation. Brilliance lies in her never ending learning: she always observing, reading, and connecting dots others miss. Books were her constant companions growing up, and she still documents everything in private journals. Fiachra is endlessly curious and relentless in her drive to understand the world around her. Ask her about any topic she's interested in and she will go on for hours.
Unsurpsingly, this insatiable drive to learn has made Fiachra quite the talented detective. Give her a mystery and her her focus narrows with frightening precision as she chases answers down like a bloodhound. Unfortunately, that same intensity is also her greatest flaw: when caught in her own tunnel vision, Fiachra often forgets to care for herself unless someone reminds her. Its this trait that led to her death from exhaustion.
Despite her quiet composed nature, Fiachra has a mischief streak. She enjoys pulling light-hearted pranks, usually as petty revenge or to make someone laugh. Her humor is dry and her patience is long, but she never forgets a slight. Whether she returns the insult with a mild inconvenience or a stabbing depends entirely on the offense and on the person responsible. Unlike Artoria and Mordred, Fiachra's relationship with gender is much less complicated and more apathetic. She has no issue being a woman, but she’s also unbothered by other pronouns and often enjoys using her androgynous appearance to confuse or mislead others.
Story:
Before the Fianna and Camelot, Diarmuid and Artoria met when they were just 15 and 13 respectively. Sir Ector (Artoria's adopted father) had been asked to accompany his lord on a visit to a friend's wedding in Ulster. Diarmuid was a squire in service of said friend. At the feast, Diarmuid and Artoria were seated near each other and became fast friends. Over the course of the wedding celebrations, which lasted almost a month as this particular lord was known for his parties, the two became quite close and started catching feelings for each other. On the day they parted, they shared a chaste hidden kiss at the docks.
3 years later, the pair reunited when Artoria went to Ireland to work out a trade agreement with the High King. Amongst the many knights who came in service to the many lords present at this meeting was Diarmuid. The pair were estatic to see each other again and revived their old friendship very quickly. Consequently, their romantic feelings also came roaring back up. Both were understandably very hesitant as Artoria was duty bound to marry and have heirs. Artoria also worried that revealing her true gender would cause Diarmuid to lose interest. Merlin, who believed his young charge still deserved some human happiness in her life, encouraged both to come clean and became the most ardent supporter of their romance.
Years passed, things happened, and the two remained ever loyal to each other. With Merlin's help, they used magical means to meet in secret and continued to share many experiences.
Eventually, Artoria married Guinevere. Artoria's secret, both about her gender and her love for Diarmuid, were accepted quite quickly. Afterall, it was a political marriage and the two became close sisters. Thanks to a special protection talismen, Guinevere also became Diarmuid's only true female friend.
At 19 and 21, they had their first child: Mordred. Merlin had been keeping a watchful eye on Morgan, fearing she might be plotting Artoria's downfall. It didn't take long for him to discover how Morgan managed to steal blood from his King and create a homunculus child. Mobilizing a small band of her most trusted knights, Artoria gave chase. After going all over Britain and Scotland, Morgan was finally cornered in one of her workshops in Ireland. With Artoria on one side and Diarmuid with his own band on the other, Morgan abandoned Mordred and escaped. With no more traces of the witch, the knights needed to figure out what to do with the child. As a homunculus, Mordred was at the physical age of 1 despite only being 4 months old. As such, the thought of simply killing the child was immediately discarded. Merlin also dissuaeded Artoria from merely handing Mordred off to some knight as she was since the odds were that she and Guinevere wouldn't have any children and Morgan could easily reclaim the child. It was then that Diarmuid offered to raise Mordred. It wouldn't raise that much suspicion since officially he was already close to the king and being a demigod as well as a skilled knight would mean that Morgan would think twice before coming after Mordred. So it was agreed upon and all the knights present had been sworn to secrecy with the help of a geis. Merlin then performed a complicated rituel on Mordred that extended her lifespan and made her age as a normal human.
It was an adjustment, but Artoria and Diarmuid adapted to parenthood quite well. Diarmuid limited his knightly duties so that he could always come home while Artoria visited whenever she could and made sure they had the proper monetary support. Both made an effort to be exemplary parents despite the distance and, even with Artoria's initial reluctance, surrendered to Mordred's charms. Even without Morgan's influence, Mordred still called Artoria "father" and Diarmuid "mother".
When Mordred turned 3, they got reckless: Artoria fell pregnant. After an extensive discussion involving Artoria, Diarmuid, Merlin, Guinevere, and Lancelot (Guinevere's new paramore), the couple decided to keep the child. After 9 months of illusion magecraft, Fiachra was born. She was sent off to be raised alongside Mordred and the family was happy for many years.
At 26, Diarmuid was invited to join the Fianna under its new leader: Fionn. Fionn would go on to become an uncle figure to Mordred and Fiachra.
As teens, Mordred and Fiachra would also went on to join Artoria's court as a knight and an advisor respectively.
Things started go down hill when Diarmuid was invited to Fionn's marriage to Gráinne. Gráinne attempted to force Diarmuid to run away with her and embrace as a lover, but he stood firm and refused her firmly. When she tried to force a geas on him, a pendant given by Merlin protected Diarmuid. Not wanting to get between Fionn and his new wife, Diarmuid stayed quiet. Over the years, Gráinne would try over and over against using all sorts of lowbrow tactics. But Diarmuid responded by each time with minimal cold politeness, a refusal to be alone with her, and stronger charms from Merlin. Fionn, having noticed his wife's affection for his knight, grew incredibly jealous. These feelings were intensified by Morgan, who saw the opportunity and sent Fionn dreams of Diarmuid and Gráinne having a secret affair.
Fionn and Diarmuid would go on a hunting trip where a demonic boar would fatally wound Diarmuid. In his jealousy, Fionn let Diarmuid die.
Artoria, Mordred, and Fiachra were all distraught at the news and hurried to Ireland for the funeral. While there, Fiachra marched out to where her father had died and discovered the truth of Fionn's betrayal. She exposed him in front of everyone, leading to him almost dying at the hands of Mordred.
The family was never the same. Artoria began distancing herself from everyone and became more emotionless day by day. Mordred, desperate to bring her father back, started clashing with her often in the hopes of some reaction. Meanwhile, Fiachra sank into her administrative work in the hopes of numbing the pain.
After a particularly bad argument, Mordred rode off in anger and wandered for a month. Morgan used this opportunity to convince Agravain that Mordred intended to usurp Artoria, so Agravain had Mordred publically branded as a traitor of the realm. While initially intending to clear her name, Mordred was soon flocked by Artoria's enemies and saw the opportunity before her: she could free her father from the duties of the crown and allow her to heal from the immense grief caused by Diarmuid's death.
With Agravain also exposing Lancelot and Guinevere's affair, the realm soon fell into civil war. Despite her insistance in helping, Fiachra was sent to Ireland to try to garner support from the High King.
Father and son finally met again at Camlann. Their armies decimated and Mordred defeated, Artoria demanded an answer for her betrayal. Mordred broke down, revealing the truth and her plan to free her father in the hopes that they could've been somewhat happy as a family again. Artoria's stone mask cracked and she sobbed as she held her dying child in her arms, succumbing to her own wounds soon after.
Fiachra, forced to return to due the civil war amongst the Fianna, screamed and wept as she kneeled before the corpses of her mother and sister. As she did so, an old woman approached and revealed how all of this was due to Morgan's schemeing. This ignited a burning desire for revenge in Fiachra, who vowed to slaughter the witch who destroyed her family. Pleased, the old woman, who was the Morrigan herself in disguise, handed the still weeping girl a prized tool for her revenge: the divine spear Gae Assail.
With her new weapon, Fiachra regrouped with Bedivere and told him everything from Artoria's gender to her parentage. After entrusting him with the truth, Fiachra left to put an end to Morgan. She chased the witch all over country, eventually ending in the same workshop where Morgan had first abandoned Mordred.
With a single thrust of her divine spear, Morgan suffered a blazing painful death. Fiachra, who'd barely slept and eaten for weeks, collapsed as she felt the Morrigan's blessing leave her body. In her final moments, she took the Gae Assail and impaled herself.
Her body was soon discovered by Fionn, who'd taken control of the region in his most recent battle in the bloody civil war caused by Diarmuid's death. Fionn knelt and wept, recognizing that all of this death and destruction had been caused by his own petty jealousy.
Fionn had Fiachra burried with the spear still in her chest as neither he nor any of his warriors had the strength to remove it. A sight eerily similar to the Sword in the Stone, part of the spear stuck out of her the grave while the body was completely buried. It was only when Fionn left that the Morrigan reclaimed the Gae Assail.

Angst galore. Just their first meeting is enough to break their hearts because they both know its either they kill each other or somebody else does. Both would prefer the former cause it would mean death by an honorable knightly duel & cause they would at least try to make as quick and painless as possible.
Pre-battle dialogue: Diarmuid: "It'll be okay. For the girls?" Artoria: "For the girls"
Unlike in the original, both have the same wish: to reincarnate and be able to live a happy life with their family.
Diarmuid's death? Triple oof, Artoria already broke down into an emotionless husk just hearing about how her love died, how tf do you think she'll feel seeing it in person and learning her own master orchestrated such a dishonorable death? Yeah no, she dropped all facades of "just being really good friends (no homo)" and ran to comfort him as he died.
The only reason Kiritsugu wasn't skewered is because Irisviel talked her down
Iskandar, being the only other genuinely decent guy amongst the servant, read the mood that maybe Diarmuid and Artoria weren't just "really good friends (no homo)"
So what was once an infamous battle of ideologies over their wishes really just became Iskandar and Artoria bonding over their lost loved ones. The only real argument is who was the better NOTboyfriend: Hephaestion or Diarmuid
Then Gilgamesh showed up all like "Pathetic fools your NOTboyfriends don't hold a candle to my own bestie (Enkidu)" and Artoria was like "either you can join the empathy party and stop being an ass or you can leave" and then Assassin showed up
Yeah when Kiritsugu destroyed the grail, Artoria was royally pissed
Fate/Stay Night (UBW):
Ah shit, here we go again.
As soon as Artoria learn Shiro is Kiritsugu's kid, she dreads whatever atrocities he'll have her do before quickly realizing that by some miracle Shiro is a genuinely good honorable guy
She watches his romance with Rin and gets stuck reminiscing about her own young love
Artoria is basically now a pseudo aunt to these kids and acts like it
As soon as Caster starts turning her eye towards her, King "I'm getting too old for the fairy nonsense" Artoria is having none of that shit
Same response when Archer's real idenity is revealed. Poor king's just tired.
Needless to say, she was very much not pleased at learning that the Holy Grail is less of a miracle machine and more of a doomsday science project

Except for the Round Table and Fionn who now have the reconcile that the people they thought were just friendTM (no homo) were actually married and had two kids together
A very nice family which they actually ended up destroying with their petty nonsense. So yeah there's that whole guilt trip.
Gawain, Tristan, Percival, and Bedivere all feel like absolute shit cause their lack of support & dehumanization of Artoria heavily contributed to THAT whole mess
Also the shock that Lancelot was the only one who actually knew what was going on, had Artoria's blessing to be with Guinevere, actually tried to be there when Diarmuid died, and still got royally screwed over when he wasn't even really the one who caused the problem. The only thing he feels real guilty for is killing Gareth.
Fionn is a particular wreck cause he's technically responsible for the death of his bestie, his nieces, and an entire god damned kingdom. Doesn't help that Mordred and Artoria give him a death glare whenever he's visible while Fiachra settles for a bombastic side eye.
