John Turnipseed receives Lifetime Achievement award at 2022 Global Fatherhood Awards
If you’ve been around Urban Ventures for any length of time, chances are you know about John Turnipseed. The former gang leader was a pimp and drug dealer in south Minneapolis, causing chaos in the neighborhood Urban Ventures now serves.
John’s personal transformation mirrored a greater transformation happening in our neighborhood, and for nearly 30 years John has been working with Urban Ventures to bring faith, hope, and restoration to our community. The primary focus of John’s work has been supporting fathers.
This month, John received a lifetime achievement award from the Global Fatherhood Foundation, recognizing him as as “Elder of the Year” for his long-lasting efforts to educate and strengthen fathers. The award highlights John’s tireless work over a quarter-century of supporting men who want to grow as leaders and strengthen bonds with their children.
Urban Ventures is incredibly proud of the work John has done in our community. His advocacy of and for healthy fathers is a legacy that will last for generations.
