Fragment of a Tiraz-style textile, produced in Fatimid Egypt ca. 1080-1100. Tiraz armbands, often embroidered with threads of precious metal and including Arabic inscriptions, were presented as gifts to high-ranking supporters of the Caliphate; as an important luxury commodity, they were heavily regulated by the state.
