When looking at old pictures of my mom from her teenage years, I was always sad that she didn’t keep her clothes, which I thought were so awesome. Because of that, I have kept maybe one or two pieces of very iconic fashions from each era of my life. In addition, I always find it fun to document my outfits via drawing as well (can’t keep EVERYTHING, right?) to preserve my current fashion sense (and sometimes lack thereof). Normally I sketch out my outfits during my Sunday church meetings, but then I only draw my church clothes, which isn’t quite an accurate documentation as I only wear those for about 3 hours. So I want to get into a better habit of sketching out my favorite outfits. Here’s just a few of them. I’m really into tunics and leggings, as well as baggy sweaters and boots. Most of these items I have found at thrift/consignment stores, or on crazy super sale at places like Target or H&M. I LOVE the sales at H&M. I have gotten so many items there for $1. I am driven by the thrill of the hunt and one-of-a-kind items. My favorite stores are Buffalo Exchange and the Twice app.

A Fashion Fairy Tale
You've probably seen this dress when I posted it before. Well, I'm posting it again - because never before in my blogging life have I wanted to scream so bad from the top of tumblr's digital mountains about how much I love a store and a designer. In Brick Lane, The Laden Showroom's prices range from about £15-£300 for clothing, shoes, and accessories. A higher price range, but not to be ignored - because finding something for a reasonable price is very possible. After three dresses, and one turquoise jumper, I feel like Renee London has changed my life. Okay drama queen, so maybe just my wardrobe. But here they are, all under £35, and each a completely different style.
Sometimes, you just need to channel your inner Zenon, girl of the 21st century, and be a human tetris for the day. Well, this dress fills that void. So far, this was the most expensive outfit I've purchased from here. But for £32, I can now play human tetris and announce to the world that we are in fact living in the new millenium - whenever I want.
And some days, you just need to sing under the sea and channel your inner mermaid self. Because there's one inside all of us, we just need to let her out. No fins? No problem. Add some flowy fabric and BOOM - you're a mute Disney princess swimming to shore to have dinner with your prince - just don't order the fish. This dress was £25 marked down from £40. If that doesn't make your mermaid heart sing, then call the doctor and get a prescription - because you've probably got a case of laryngitis.
Then sometimes you just need a dress to help you sign contracts and sip cocktails - probably done best in that order. Elegantly aggressive, this dress was £70 marked down to £20 - fashion fate at it's finest. It's like the Adams Family and Carrie Bradshaw all got together, had a party, then an argument, and resolved all conflicts through the production of this dress. Contracts just got signed, sealed, and delivered --> to my closet.
Since art's expensive, I collect fashion instead - sometimes even hang my favorite outfits on the wall as decor. But the point is, that this store offers you a range of styles to choose from. By different styles, I don't mean you've achieved this months issue of In Style's 'how to get that look'. I mean that each outfit gives you a different attitude and a different feeling of self-expression. Because to me, that's what fashion is really about. It's about wearing something that makes you feel confident. Something that makes you feel extra YOU. Because we are all fabulous in our own special way, it's how we choose to express it that distinguishes us from the rest.
So, maybe you don't want to be Zenon for a day, and maybe the thought of being a Disney princess makes you want to to vomit in your mouth. But wearing something that gives you a feeling of confidence and the ability to bring out one part of your inner self - is a wonderful option we are lucky to have. And if there's one thing this city can offer - it's endless options. Just like different people bring out different parts of your personality, your clothes can do the same. So, while style and fashion don't actually make the person - they can certainly help accentuate it.
Moral of the story? It doesn't have to be expensive to be fabulous.
