Seeing as you have (as far as I can tell) the sole het in Laslow and Peri, do you have any headcanons about what Peri!Soleil would act like?

finally have a moment to sit down and answer this properly, so...

i have a lot of miscellaneous hcs abt peri!soleil and her relationship w/peri from both perspectives!  peri is definitely my default fates parent for soleil, so when i think abt things that might’ve happened in soleil’s life as she grew up (babyrealms??  never heard of them) or influences on her personality, it’s w/peri in mind.

- i like to think that one of the “couple of gals who taught [her] to cook” was, in fact, peri.  i have a bunch of maudlin hcs abt the role of the kitchen as a physical/emotional place in the peri/laslow + soleil family that are probably at embarrassing levels of extrapolation.  teaching soleil to cook is textually very important to peri (see their matsuri dlc convo), and soleil’s not too shabby at it from a gameplay perspective.  i think that the image of her mother as her teacher in this respect is how soleil sees peri first and foremost, and that means a lot to peri.  __(:3_/  they still cook together a lot when soleil’s older, and laslow gets in on it as well.  

- taking soleil’s general characterization as someone who will unashamedly seek out help if she feels she’s lacking in some respect in tandem w/peri!soleil in the matsuri dlc being portrayed as someone who actually gets frustrated p easily, i like to think that soleil grew into that go-getter attitude thanks to her early experiences cooking w/peri.  it was her first big endeavor as a kid, and she took it really hard that she wasn’t Immediately as good as peri.  i don’t think it’s unreasonable to read post-what little development she gets!peri as a mother who’s constantly looking out for all those “teachable moments” in soleil’s life that she had no one to guide her through in her own life.  so it’s nice to think abt the two of them growing together, in that sense, esp since soleil’s drive for self-improvement is one of my fav aspects of her character.

- soleil has the gradient hair, i will accept nothing less.  i’d like to think it’s a Thing on peri’s side of the family, due to anime genetics or what have you.  i could go for soleil dyeing her hair to match peri’s, i guess--it’s just not as fun or in line w/my love of gradient hair.  she doesn’t have the heterochromia, tho, which peri is privately relieved abt.  (one of her few non-creepy myroom lines in the jpn script specifically mentions she’s self-conscious abt it, and that’s why she hides her green eye)

- i like the idea that soleil wears her hair so long despite being such a jock b/c she’s proud of matching her mom.  __(:3_/  this is also a hc i favor for azura!soleil, fwiw.

- regardless of her variable parent, soleil is always going to look more like laslow/inigo in terms of general facial structure and body type.  she gets a lot of little things from peri, like the long, dramatic eyelashes (even w/o badly-applied mascara), the shape of her mouth, some lil dimples, and a long neck.  soleil is a bit taller than peri imo (5′9″ vs 5′6″ and some change), which makes her feel v cool b/c she likes being taller than most women in general.

- soleil actually wanted to be a cavalier like peri at first, which made peri (understandably) very apprehensive.  she never went through w/it b/c the discipline level of the formal training (which peri never really got) kind of turned her off.  she’s much more of a freewheeling sort, tho that’s not to say she doesn’t take her training seriously.  in any event, soleil does know how to ride a horse, and she’s quite good at it.  flying gives her nasty vertigo, but she loves to ride peri’s horse.  tbh since peri’s family is apparently so old and rich on top of soleil being the daughter of the king’s chief retainers, she probably has her own horse.

- to an extent, peri is more of the Discipline Parent (tm) to laslow’s Fun Parent (tm) in soleil’s mind.  this is a hc that the peri-soleil matsuri dlc definitely solidified for me.  i can’t for the life of me see laslow as being very comfortable w/disciplining his kid(s), based on how deep of a shock his yelling at soleil in their b support is to both of them.  otoh, based on what scraps of decent characterization we get for peri, i wasn’t really sure how she’d handle it, either.  her odin support and her solo ending suggest that she does actually make a pretty good leader, but disciplining yr kid is another thing entirely.  

- in the matsuri dlc, tho, peri outright says that she wants to be there to “scold” and redirect soleil if she does s/t wrong, as peri herself never had that after her mother’s murder and her father’s total shutdown in response.  imo peri can be stern w/soleil if she has to, but she’s also big on redirecting negative emotions/actions into positives, based on her odin supports.  the older soleil gets, the more she respects this approach and its role in her overall relationship w/her mother.

- this isn’t really Deep, i just think it’s funny that soleil was canonically a picky eater as a kid in the context of having the best chef in the cast as her mom www  maybe peri cooked a bunch of high-brow gourmet food for little soleil, who just wanted ye olde mcdonalds?  soleil specifically says she disliked vegetables, and that laslow helped her get over it, which makes me wonder if peri likes them a lot.  maybe they have the cooked vs raw carrots debate going on or s/t lmao  otoh, soleil seems to be a lowkey food snob, according to some of her other dining hall quotes, so maybe peri’s standards did rub off on her a bit?

- they have the same sword in their portraits, which is probably unintentional.  i’d like to think it’s the same sword at different points in time, tho.

- soleil got into hair ribbons/headbands b/c of peri--the two of them have very similar taste in clothing in general.  i know soleil is a Hot Futch Jock and all, but you can’t convince me she wouldn’t love ruffles and frills as much as peri seems to.  peri knows that soleil’s favorite headband is a keepsake from laslow’s mother, and wishes she had s/t from her own mother to pass down to soleil.

- ngl i get Emotional over peri having a daughter specifically.  peri’s is actually a case where (if she’d been taken seriously) i think motherhood-as-closure is a good aspect of a female character’s arc.  soleil evidently doesn’t know too much abt either of her parents’ pasts, as evidenced by her surprise at laslow telling her abt the deaths of olivia and his father.  this is a conscious choice on peri and laslow’s part, and while laslow does tell soleil more when the time is right, peri doesn’t go into quite as much detail.  soleil knows her maternal grandma was murdered, but not a whole lot more than that, and it’s likely recent knowledge.  after hearing that, i think she’d come to understand a little more why their mother-daughter dynamic is so precious to peri.

3) what is the rarest pair that you ship?

- probably my own url’s namesake?  there are like five other miyaio shippers in all creation despite the game laying it on so thick that miyako’s survival in the true end is contingent upon her bond w/io, not w/the male protag.  i’m also pretty sure i’m the only jenny/celica shipper, tho we’ll have to see if they have an iota of actual basis in sov’s extended script, haha.  never make jokes about gay readings of suspiciously vague character endings from a 90s srpg whose script could probably fit within the length requirements for a common app essay, kids.  you’ll get invested and die.

6) what is your most angsty ship?

- owainigosev in the context of fef, or urehibi in the context of kingmaker?  i’m leaning towards the latter, since the whole bittersweet tragedy of kingmaker revolves around hibiki forming such a close bond of trust w/saiduq, uplifting this being who’s been called the anguished one for millennia for a reason, and then both of them having to let each other go.  owainigosev in fates is somewhat extrapolation-based, if you interpret odin and selena’s absurdly flattened characters as a sign that they’re in a bad place mentally, rather than a sign that the fates support writers completely forgot what really made ppl love owain and severa in the first place.  :/  still, fef continues to be my $80 fea trio weepypasta simulator.

12) what is your favorite canon ship?

- despite loving established relationships, i have very few canon ships that i’m partial to?  even when i consume media w/canon ships, i rarely find myself liking said pairs, usually b/c they’re some variant of Bland Het when there’s either a better het option or a better gay option.  can i count ikesoren?  i’m gonna count ikesoren.

15) what is the first ship you had?

- two of the dinosaurs from that obscure don bluth movie, we’re back, probably.  i used to make up elaborate scenarios (complete w/a small child’s loose understanding of romance) w/my dinosaur action figures as a four-year-old lmao

18) is there a ship the writers have ruined for you?

- i can’t think of one--usually, the intended ship is ruined for me from the get-go, rather than bad developments making me change my once-good opinion.

24) what is one scene you want to see happen for all of your ships?

- this is a pretty big question!  is “domestic stuff” too vague?  i really just like to see established relationship content where characters cohabitate in their daily lives.  i guess i could also go for a wedding scene (esp for f/f ships), but the catch there is that i don’t think all my ships would get married, nor would i want some of them to.

27) name a ship that deserved better in the end:

- the only fef localization bullshit you’ll ever catch me complaining abt is that laslow/peri’s end was changed from “peri works thru her trauma and becomes a stable, more fulfilled person while laslow supports and loves her” to “she was a serial killer i guess??  lol”.  let me pretend i live in a timeline where peri’s character was treated seriously and actually thought through for more than twenty seconds so that we could’ve had a really interesting and unique female character, rather than lol infantilized murdergirl.  she and laslow can still get married in the better universe, tho www

30) is there a ship you like, but you dislike the fandom?

- azujero...............  it’s not as bad these days as it was in its heyday, admittedly.  azujero fandom of yore is partially responsible for my irrational-yet-volcanic hatred of chrom!inigo, and every once in a while, some yaoi trope nonsense rears its straight fujo wankbait head to make me ashamed of my own bad taste in slash.  i continue to be a professional azujero elitist into perpetuity. (i am fully aware how silly it is to hate yaoi manga-esque for my own terribad slash ship)

Aaa for the trope: huddling for warmth, fake dating, "Since the first time I saw you, I couldn't stop thinking about you", soulmates, forced to work together to succeed, and freakin coffee shop barista/customer? This is such a cute ask idea

i like huddling for warmth, i’ve just never come up w/a situation for it that doesn’t feel contrived af?  tbh it’s s/t i’d like to write as a parent-child bonding thing more than a shippy thing--a little kid hogging their parent’s blankets on a cold night seems a lot more plausible than “we’ve been trapped in a freak snowstorm, our only course of action is to hug under a blanket and warm ourselves w/the force of our unresolved sexual tension” www  so to take the family fluff approach, maybe it’d be s/t i’d write for olivia + lil inigo growing up in ferox, since inigo apparently dislikes snow/the cold.

my great fandom secret is that i’ve never really seen the appeal of fake dating?  it feels like such a circumstance- or au-specific thing to me that i’ve never really thought abt writing fic for it.

i’m gonna call the first one love at first sight, ig.  it’s cute, tho i veer more towards slowburn or established relationship, so it’d dovetail w/one of those tropes.  this would be a cute marilissa fic, i think?  lately, i’ve been thinking abt marilissa a lot from both of their perspectives, and it’d be interesting to get into maribelle’s head and examine that unconditional platonic and romantic love she has for lissa.

soulmates is one of my least favorite tropes this side of a/b/o--while i think there can be That One Special Person (tm) out there for some ppl, i generally dislike the idea of being somehow magically bound to that person.  it feels kind of restrictive to me, and the more questions you start to ask abt the mechanics of such a world, the more i kind of feel like it falls apart.  so if i were to ever touch the trope, it’d be in a [tvtropes voice] deconstruction.  what that would entail, i’m not totally sure--maybe s/t abt cordelia -> chrom + severa -> lucina in the context of severa resenting her own feelings for lucina b/c she misunderstood what she saw as cordelia’s continued pining for chrom?  severa’s misunderstandings and misconstruings of cordelia -> chrom are interesting to think abt, tho it’s saddening if bad timeline!cordelia really didn’t get over chrom b/c she was clinging to that soulmate idea.  that said, i would also want to give cordelia -> chrom a more nuanced portrayal beyond “tragic unrequited love that consumes like half her supports”, haha.

forced to work together to succeed is one that i really like when the characters don’t straight-up hate each other so much as they just get on each other’s nerves or operate in different ways.  i had this whole silly buddy cop au abt soleil and nina as Righteous Thieves who bicker constantly b/c soleil is only in it to look cool (and to keep nina safe, tho she’d never admit it out loud) whereas nina is only in it for her own pigheaded view of justice (tho she’s thankful soleil supports her, even if she’d never admit it out loud).  so it’d just be comedic nonsense like the two of them shouting at each other b/c nina is driving the getaway car at the speed limit (she is a RIGHTEOUS thief, not an indiscriminate lawbreaker!!) www

and the coffee shop au!  this is another one i’ve never really gotten, chiefly b/c i hate coffee.  it’s cute, tho, so long as it doesn’t veer into the territory of the customer intentionally or even inadvertently taking advantage of the fact that the barista kind of has to be nice to them.  that said, one of my fav fea modau hcs is that inigo is a long-suffering barista at starbucks who started working there to pick up The Ladies and wound up only getting attention from grannies who pinch his cheeks and tell him he’s such a sweet young man for remembering their orders.  he and gerome have a very romantic barista-customer exchange when gerome comes in at 6:30 am and asks for the largest black coffee they have.  inigo insists that it’s venti coffee, much like gerome is being a venti jerk for coming in so early in the morning and wanting the most soulless coffee order in all human creation.  is he sure he doesn’t want some whipped cream to bring a bit of joy into his life??

On to less emotional stuff! So y'know that gay fates hack? That hack has ruined any het ship for Selena for me. The girl's as straight as a boomerang in my eyes now. It also pulled me into my I think fifth rare pair hell thanks to Selena x Felicia. OTZ tfw there's one art for your pairing...

i was having trouble seeing selena/felicia at first, but their fanmade supports definitely sold me on them!  while i think the severa femslash potential is far richer in fea, i also can’t say no to how surprisingly cute beruka/selena is, and the hot mess of camilla/selena.

then again, heroes crossover silliness and a Certain Friend of mine made me genuinely ship camilla/eirika, so who even knows where my rarepair bar is at www

What is your absolute favorite hc for Soleil?

hmm, i guess i’d say a general collection of hcs abt the time she spent in the city where her paralogue takes place?  i’d like to think the whole place really came to care for her as much as she came to care for everyone there, hence why she feels so duty-bound to put her life on the line.  soleil is not the world’s most economical mercenary--you get the sense that she’s in it for the sake of making something good out of her martial abilities, rather than for money.  the whole point of those revised soleil-mom supports i started writing was to focus in on the dissonance between soleil’s athletic ability and her tendency to panic or break down in actual battles.  imo she does fear losing her sense of empathy, even if she hasn’t had to confront or even recognize that fear to the extent inigo has.  so i think she’d want to at least take up a protector’s role so that she can have some small hand in making some small changes for nohr.  it’s also s/t i imagine she’d want to do while she’s more freewheeling--she does know that once siegbert takes the throne, she’ll be a lot more limited if she really chooses to commit to being retainer to a king.

.........also she and Generic Nohrian Village Girl were definitely dating, js.  they broke up eventually, but it was an amicable split, and they’re still friends who are happy to see one another whenever soleil is in town.

I've been thinking more and more about the hilarity of Owain being Soleil's Uncle lately, (hello Lissa/Olivia hell), and started thinking about where Soleil's mark would be. I personally like the idea of it being on her back or somewhere near that just to have an excuse to talk about her muscles; your thoughts?

hmm, in the event that soleil had a brand (via owain or lucina parent, most likely), i do like the idea of it being on her back, maybe between her shoulder blades or s/t?  i subscribe to the hc that brand placement says s/t abt the person’s priorities and beliefs, so for soleil, the back placement could indicate the tension between her desire to act as protector and her own fallibility.  to turn yr back makes you a premium target, but then there’s also the archetypal image of having someone yr protecting look at yr back, knowing you’ll stand before them and shield them from harm.

..................also i’m sure soleil has very nice back muscles, but that’s neither here nor there.

A funny trend I've noticed with most of my favs is how they've got so much potential, but IS just ruins them (Nina's fujoshi?-ness, Soleil's persistence, Peri's...everything) All of them have amazing potential that I really want to bring out (Nina's head strong Robin Hood traits, Soleil's facade of acting ok, and just fixing Peri's terrible writing). This kinda got ranty, but eh.

i feel exactly the same way, tbh.........  soleil and nina have very strong character foundations that get sidelined by the hefty dosage of misogyny and homophobia injected directly into fef’s writing, and peri’s mountains of potential to explore nohr’s moral climate were completely squandered in favor of lol infantilized murdergirl.  :///
