This series means so much to me. Im upset i couldnt do anything bigger for the anniversary but i know there will be more to come!

Happy 30th birthday to Fire Emblem and happy birthday to Lucina, one of my favourite characters in the series! 

I got into Fire Emblem back in 2014 when I was at a friend’s house. She, her brother and our other friend told me about this new game they had been playing: Fire Emblem Awakening. 

I had heard about FE before but the strategy elements and permadeath put me off because I was (and still am) terrible at tactical gameplay and hated the thought of losing characters forever. The cover of Awakening had caught my eye though on several occasions two years prior whenever I went to the game shop thanks to the beautiful artwork and great character designs; I had always come away wishing I could play it but regretting that I would not be able to due to the aforementioned features.

Luckily, my friends explained about casual mode, saying that it was an option for those who did not want characters to die. Intrigued, I took the spare game cartridge my friend’s brother lent me and started playing. I was hooked immediately. 

I spent over an hour on customising my Avatar alone! Being able to make a main character look and sound how I wanted truly helped me feel immersed. The stunning CG cutscenes, great Japanese voice acting and the awesome soundtrack were breathtaking, not to mention the story and mythos. It was an amazing experience. 

It turned out that the spare game cartridge I had been given was an extra which had come with my friend’s brother’s brand new copy of the game! He had been very surprised to find two cartridges upon opening the case. What incredible luck! He did not need it and so decided to let me keep the cartridge after seeing how much I was enjoying the game. 

I have been a fan of FE ever since. If not for my friends introducing Awakening to me, I would never have experienced this awesome series.
