the act of remembering is a strange one. remembering people, remembering places, remembering past selves. in the crows club, nina wasn’t sure how much remembering was required of her. her days in ketterdam had never been frequented here, but she sure as hell wasn’t spending her time in the house of the white rose. the nina zenik who frequented ketterdam before would have found a way into spin this evening into enjoyment - even whilst sniffing out the inferni, even whilst combatting rumours of a fjerdan fleet. undoubtably, she would have found a way to do both.
maybe the act of becoming was really one of pretending.
drink in hand, nina seated herself at a sailor’s side, neckline drooped low as she twirled locks of hair around her fingers. most men enjoyed the sound of their own voices more than anything else - and this target was an easy one. all it took was a velvet ‘and where did you come from sailor?’ with the occasional drawl of ‘i bet you see all sorts of scary thing’s in the big bad ocean’, for him to confess all. he was of limited use - but confirmed that some part of the ice nation was on the move. alarming. brushing off her target once he stopped being of use, nina cast a second eye around the room - startled when she settled upon something, someone, unexpected.
astrid?
astrid who the second army had rescued from fjerda? astrid who rebuffed their advances? astrid who fled?
curious, nina approached from behind, seating herself opposite. “i didn’t take you for the ketterdam type. most fjerdan’s despise it here. it’s too...” she glanced over at the sailors in a drunken sea shanty “...rabid.” with a slightly strained half smile, nina inclined her head. “long time no see.”
